  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

With 3 x 3 OT (which I despise) you play a different style. Watching it at every level from the NHL down, you need possession of the puck and you keep possession for as long as you can. Circling, cycling, retreating etc. Until you find a way to have an odd man situation you can take advantage of. You do not usually just skate up and take a shot or get trapped into giving up possession. Just like special teams play during regulation (after all this is also a form of special teams play) we are simply not good at it. Either we do not teach it, coach it, stress it or practice it enough. We played an exciting third period and give our boys trememndous credit for coming back with 3 late goals to tie. In fact, we had to come back with all 5 goals as we never led in this game.
