Brown Hockey 2018-19: Marchin Orders

Re: Brown Hockey 2018-19: Marchin Orders

WOW, what an effort to come back! Incredible third period and overtime. This team is so, so fun.

Re: Brown Hockey 2018-19: Marchin Orders

Congrats on the game tonight! You guys are on fire! I am hoping for a different outcome tomorrow night (Colgate). Going forward (after tomorrow night), you will be my team to rout for. Go get 'em, Bruno!!

Re: Brown Hockey 2018-19: Marchin Orders

Four games left, and we have a five-point advantage over 9th-place RPI. Barring something dramatic, Brown will be hosting a home playoff series for the first time since 2013. Union, RPI, and Dartmouth would all have to overtake us to bounce us out of the home ice picture. We have a head-to-head with Dartmouth Saturday, so we have some control over our fate in that regard.

It’s unlikely, but we remain in the picture for a bye, too. We’d likely have to win at least three of the last four games, including a win over Harvard.

Decent read on Tommy Marchin and Brown’s revival over at CHN: https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2019/02/22_Marchin-To-Success.php

An interesting point, I thought, was when Tommy hinted at a revised recruiting strategy after last year’s class of NHL draft picks who came straight from prep school never really panned out. He mentioned how old the current freshmen are, because they all came from juniors instead of directly from prep school. We’re not going to compete with BU and PC in landing future NHLers at an early age. We need to follow the Quinnipiac/Lowell strategy that got them to be competitive, which focused on NCAA-ready older recruits. I think the past three recruiting classes, as well as what I’ve seen of next year’s so far, indicates the coaching staff has made that adjustment.

Nice way to bounce back after giving up an early lead at Harvard on Friday. Brown now just needs a point (or a Colgate tie) to clinch home ice next week.

Much improved team! You guys played hard and finished checks.
Good luck the rest of the way.

Re: Brown Hockey 2018-19: Marchin Orders

Brown did not show up this weekend. We’ll have to play MUCH better to win a playoff series. Losing to QU is understandable; being dominated at home by Princeton is not.

Speaking of which...we’re now 3-7-3 at home this season. Doesn’t bode well for a playoff run...

Re: Brown Hockey 2018-19: Marchin Orders

Absolutely unbelievable game. I’m still processing it. Can’t even imagine how the players are feeling right now. Good thing there’s no need for a Game 3! There would’ve been some tired legs out there.

On to...Quinnipiac, probably, but maybe Cornell. Go Bruno!

As the overtime periods went on, it became apparent that the Bears had more depth than the Tigers (who kept playing their top line every other shift) and were in better shape physically and mentally. Gritty performance by the boys and great coaching job by the staff.

And lots of respect for the Princeton players who never quit.

In the end the better team won. It's not how many All Americans you have, but how well you play as a team. Every guy on the Brown team accepts his role. This is an incredibly cohesive group.

Agreed. Brown outshot Princeton 28-13 in the overtime sessions. I’m not sure Princeton got the puck out of their defensive end for longer than 30 seconds in either the second or third overtimes. It seemed like it was just a matter of time before Brown found a way to win.

Of course, you can’t ever count out Princeton’s top line from finding a way to find a quick goal, so it was incredibly intense. And I have to give credit to Ferland – after getting yanked early in the first period, he came back in and was lights-out in the overtimes. Strange decision by the Princeton staff to play all three goaltenders at various points.

Giving up three late goals to blow a 5-2 lead at home was disheartening, but Brown rallied and persevered. Great performance, and as memorable a game as I’ve ever seen at Meehan (or anywhere, really).

Re: Brown Hockey 2018-19: Marchin Orders

One more thing: Brown has not lost a playoff game at Meehan Auditorium in 15 years!

Re: Brown Hockey 2018-19: Marchin Orders

Good luck next weekend, Brown. History's got its eyes on you.

Re: Brown Hockey 2018-19: Marchin Orders

With Brown's second half step up, and QU's blue line bruises, the eyes around the ECAC are very much on the Brown Bears.. Good luck Brown, from the North Country.

This is a game to watch, because Brown can play and Quinnipiac is a completely different team for the 1st game and possibly 2nd, too.
