Brown Hockey 2015-16: (s)Lappin' around the competition

Re: Brown Hockey 2015-16: (s)Lappin' around the competition

Anyone watch the replay of the no goal? Text messages from those watching the webcast said the replay clearly showed the goal crossed the goal line? No explanation yet as to why it was waved off.

Video was not available due to technical difficulties. Replay showed clear goal on-line. Nobody can believe it was waved off. RPI commentators were shocked. Officials did not review goal, should have waited found the live stream and reviewed, it was crystal clear. Terrible way to end the weekend.

It was a chicken**** call and a clear goal. I almost want to see the Whittet press conference.

Re: Brown Hockey 2015-16: (s)Lappin' around the competition

For anyone who hasn't seen the goal yet. Not only did it go in - it goes into the back of the net before the players knocks the cage off.

Also, props to Tim Ernst for being so blunt! I hope he doesn't face any discipline from the conference for this.

-redacted to protect the innocent-

Kid better be careful the league doesn't suspend him for a comment like that. If it can happen to coaches, it can happen to players.

Yeah, he's toeing a very fine line here. He technically didn't DIRECTLY criticize the ref - what he said is basically true. So maybe he'll get away with it for that reason.

He doesn't have to mention a name to be criticizing the refs. We found that out in 2010 during our home/home series, where a near-last-second game tying goal was washed on the goaltender falling over. During the press conference, the coach stopped the press questioning players about the call (obviously to protect them being able to play) and showed a video of the play with no comments. However, when it was the coach's turn for a press conference, when asked if he'll hear from the league about showing video, he said "the refs should be concerned", which drew the suspension because he called out the refs directly on messing up. And unfortunately, since he tagged the official ECAC Hockey twitter account, that's an immediate red flag to drawing attention.

What is Zach Pryzbek's situation? He didn't suit up last night so I assume he was suspended for at least that game. Anything more? It was mentioned briefly last night by some one I could not identify that he was suspended for the rest of the season. Hard to believe that but I did not see the contact.

Based on that situation, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get any discipline now!

Re: Brown Hockey 2015-16: (s)Lappin' around the competition

Assuming Ernst can be disciplined, IMHO the ECAC would look foolish in doing so after the fiasco that ensued Saturday. The ECAC looks bad already and it may look worse if it goes after Ernst and does not discipline the refs. But may =be the ECAC has no shame.

Box score says game misconduct and not game DQ, it's not his third GM of the year, and there wasn't a league notice, so any lack of playing time would be as a result of the team internally.

What are you going to discipline the refs for? Sure, they made the incorrect call on the ice to start. They followed the appropriate protocol for the situation, though. They tried to review, and when they found it didn't work, they discussed it as a crew (RPI doesn't use goal judges anymore so you can't add them to the discussion, sadly) to see if any of them saw, from their angle, evidence that it should be a goal. No one saw any clear evidence, so the call on the ice has to stand by rule.

The comment, although indirectly related because it happened in a public statement, is a violation of league rules that apply to both players and coaches. Although the league chooses not to release their regulations to the public, you can discern from previous activity (and believe me, RPI fans will be more than happy to help you with it as we've come across it several times) what they are. If the player isn't suspended, he should at least be told by the staff that such a comment is not acceptable. Video's one thing, but commentary is quite another.

The latter is definitely NOT true.
