Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

A few Bear posters don't seem to favor kdiff's proposed 2015-16 thread title.

Perhaps a more compact "Brown Hockey 2015-16: The Quest Continues." would be an improvement.

Sounds good.

Matt Lorito made his AHL debut this afternoon It was a memorable one. He got the GWG on a PP and was selected as the first star!

A couple of things amazed me. Matt is a lot faster skater than I thought he was. His stick-handling skills and hockey sense are clearly AHL caliber and beyond. The game started with several brawls and Matt kept his poise.

Tomorrow Hartford is in town and I am looking forward to seeing Matt going against Yann Danis.

Speaking of Yann and Matt, Brown has several players in the AHL now. Hathaway is at Glens Falls, Farnham is at Wilkes-Barre, Volpatti is at Hershey, Harry Z is at Bridgeport, and Scott Ford is at Milwaukee; and Jack McClellan was with Bridgeport for a few games. Speaks well of Brown hockey and Coach Whittet who coached them all except for Yann and Ford.

Excellent start for Lorito. Also great for Ford to get a PTO and back as the "Sheriff of Milwaukee". Farnham (http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/01/bobby-farnham-pittsburgh-penguins-longform), Zolnierczyk and Volpatti all played in the NHL this year.

I think you missed a player though - Brown's captain for 2 years?

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Assume coming this year, looks like no eligibility left for another year of juniors. Any defensemen coming next year?

I'm not supposed to comment on recruiting, but if I could, I'd say, yes, defensemen are coming. :-)

Any news about Brown's non-ECAC games for next season?

What prompted me to make this inquiry was Ken Schotts' column which mentioned Union has home games next season against Michigan, BU, New Hampshire and Maine. Quite the line-up for non-league opponents.

Uconn, Holy Cross, Vermont, Providence (2) Lake Superior. Then either Mass-Lowell or Northeastern at the Belfast BeanPot. Evidently they will play Colgate in Belfast and it will count as an ECAC game.

Belfast BeanPot?

That is what the Tournament Brown will play in this November is being referred to. The Official announcement will come during the Frozen Four but its already been leaked by various sources that the teams are Brown, Colgate, Northeastern & Lowell. Nov 27-29 in Belfast Ireland at Odyssey Arena.

You mean the Bears might actually have the opportunity to play the Northeastern Huskies next season before Bruno's decommitted duo of Kevin & Derick Roy graduate in 2016? The Hockey Gods must be smiling.

Is LSSU and UVM going to be part of the Catamount Cup? LSSU already has a pretty full schedule, and I don't foresee them playing much else.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

The aforementioned schedule is perhaps the most random group of opponents I've ever seen us play. Interesting!

I like that we're playing more Hockey East teams. I don't like that we're flying all the way to Ireland to do so, and I especially don't like that one of the games counts as a conference game.
