Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Does anyone have a sense of whether or not Brendan Whittet's job is safe going forward? I know he's well-liked, but his last two teams have certainly fallen well short of expectations. I'm not of the persuasion that he should be replaced, especially with a couple more good recruiting classes in their way (often, if a coach leaves, so do the players who were recruited by him), but I have to imagine his leash is rather short going forward.

There you go Mike Hutter, Lorito signed an ATO w/Albany. They play @ the TUC tonight. I don’t know if he’ll play but I would assume he was here to sign the contract.....http://theahl.com/stats/transactions.php

I have my tickets for tonight's game and as well tomorrow's and bringing the whole family!! Not sure if he is suiting up tonight.

Just in time as I was starting to show withdrawal symptoms with no brown team to root for.

Agree. I will cede to you the start of the thread for 2015-2016 season. Two off season discussion items should be attendance at Meehan and the search for a goalie?

With all due respect to devoted alumnus and fan extraordinaire Mike Hutter, I'd prefer not to beat the attendance dead horse. There seem to be empty seats in every arena. I was watching the Minnesota/Penn State game on TV last nigh, and couldn't help noticing how many empty seats there were. Last year I was struck by the empty seats there in Achilles rink when Brown played at Union. Empty seats didn't prevent Minnesota from winning the game or Union from winning a national championship.

BHA meetings are dominated by the attendance issue, when, in fact, we should be discussing what we need to do to help the hard-working coaching staff put the best possible product on the ice -- facility issues, recruiting issues, and especially financial support for the program in light of stretched resources as the Brown administration insists on sponsoring thirty-eight varsity teams.

Euler- agree with you on the attendance thing. The only way to put butts in the seats is to win, and the only way to do that is through a strongly-supported program with a good coaching staff and good players. The last time Brown was consistently good (the Danis era), most home games drew decent crowds, and when an Ivy opponent or PC was at Meehan the place was packed. Win, and students/alumni/local casual fans will come!

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

I'm debating on whether I should wait until the season ends, or just start a new one now. I'm thinking "Brown Hockey 2015-16: the Quest For Relevance Continues." ;)

A few Bear posters don't seem to favor kdiff's proposed 2015-16 thread title.

Perhaps a more compact "Brown Hockey 2015-16: The Quest Continues." would be an improvement.

Matt Lorito made his AHL debut this afternoon It was a memorable one. He got the GWG on a PP and was selected as the first star!

A couple of things amazed me. Matt is a lot faster skater than I thought he was. His stick-handling skills and hockey sense are clearly AHL caliber and beyond. The game started with several brawls and Matt kept his poise.

Tomorrow Hartford is in town and I am looking forward to seeing Matt going against Yann Danis.

Speaking of Yann and Matt, Brown has several players in the AHL now. Hathaway is at Glens Falls, Farnham is at Wilkes-Barre, Volpatti is at Hershey, Harry Z is at Bridgeport, and Scott Ford is at Milwaukee; and Jack McClellan was with Bridgeport for a few games. Speaks well of Brown hockey and Coach Whittet who coached them all except for Yann and Ford.

KDiff - Another good job with your predictions in the ECAC contest but I am closing the gap:)
