Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Anyone making the trip to Cambridge this weekend? I figure with the basketball team deciding the Ivy League title next door on Friday and Saturday and the large number of Brown alumni in the Boston area, we have a pretty good shot at outnumbering the home fans! Ok, maybe that's a bit dramatic- but the place is probably going to be pretty empty, and the Harvard band will almost certainly be next door. Maybe ours will show up?

I can't make it Friday or Saturday, but can on Sunday. As believe the series will go 3 games, Sunday game should be a really good one. Brown takes series with win on Sunday. BTW, Brendan in an email has suggested Brown fans sit in sections 4 and 5 for the best seats in the house!!

...so you can be jerks to the Harvard students and whine to the admins when you don't get your way? ;)

Yes, an incident that occurred almost a decade ago involving a handful (or less) of fans at one game that took place three hours from Cambridge is representative of the way the rest of the fanbase conducts itself.

Let it go, man! You guys bring this up every time we're playing you- and, apparently, now even when we aren't.

Said incident, plus the off-ice results of Freakout 1987, have confirmed your school's reputation.

That was almost 30 years ago. The current players weren't even born. Move on with your life! You want to talk about reputation? You make your entire fanbase look like whiny, petulant infants.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Everyone over on the Harvard thread is looking ahead to a quarterfinal clash with Yale.
I am among those looking out as far as a trip down to New Haven, yes. But that's partly because I've never seen a game there and we're going to make a big family day of it.

But I don't take this Brown series for granted. After all, the Bears are one of a few who became many by turning the tide on the Crimson in 2015. I wish all visiting Brown fans a great weekend enjoying what I think will be an excellent series at Bright. Plenty of great seats still available.

Fight fiercely Harvard!

That was wretched. I don't often leave games early, but tonight I did, and I'm not sorry I did.

On to tomorrow. There were a few good stretches where we carried the play tonight, so maybe we can build off that.

At this point, I don't think any of our defensemen are Division 1 players. They're really just bad.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

The Achilles' heel of the current Brown coaching staff has been their inability to attract a first-rate goaltender to Brown. The Bears did well in the 2010 and 2013 ECAC playoffs with two goaltenders (Mike Clemente and Anthony Borelli) who had been recruited by Roger Grillo's staff.

Most successful coaches have built their programs around solid goaltending. If you look back at the time when Union began to improve, you'll see consistent goaltending. In fact, the first thing Nate Leaman did when he took over the Providence College job was to find a good goaltender. Cornell hasn't always been blessed with a great offense, but the Big Red remain competitive year after year due to solid goaltending. It mesmerizes the fans that the 2015 Brown recruiting list, at least according to C. Heisenberg's website, doesn't include a goaltender.

It won't matter how many good skaters Brown recruits if the goaltenders can't stop the puck. Allowing easy goals, particularly early and late in the period, as has been the habit of Brown goaltenders, deflates the team and vexes the fans.

Ditto Clarkson. :(

Oh yeah, then there's that guy that's been absolutely a lion this winter, roaring down the stretch to the top
of the stat sheet, the pride of Yale, Alex Lyon !!!

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

We HAVE to win the next two games, or else we'll be faced with a Yale-Harvard series. And that would be unbearable.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Showed some fight, but it wasn't enough. Tim Lappin looked really good all weekend; Tegtmeyer and McArdle look like decent puck movers, but need work in their own zone. Awful, disappointing season, and I'm glad it's behind us. On to better things!

Agree. I will cede to you the start of the thread for 2015-2016 season. Two off season discussion items should be attendance at Meehan and the search for a goalie?

Speaking of attendance, I was really taken back by the poor attendance at the Harvard series, 553 and 662 for the Friday and Saturday games. Those are even more dismal than the Meehan numbers. Hard to figure especially eith Cornell series drawing 3600 each night, Dartmouth drawing 1600 each night and Clarkson with 1600 each night. Sure Bball is a draw at Harvard but still difficult to believe the lack of fan support for H.

I'm debating on whether I should wait until the season ends, or just start a new one now. I'm thinking "Brown Hockey 2015-16: the Quest For Relevance Continues." ;)

I went both nights, and was really surprised at how Meehan-like the place was. Frankly, I never want to hear again about how dead and empty Meehan always is, because Bright was just as sparsely attended, and possibly even more devoid of atmosphere (at least the Brown band makes some noise at home games, as well as those of us who like to ridicule the officials).

With that said, the renovations they did recently are awesome, and the new concourse and lighting make the old rink feel like a modern arena. Kudos to them for that!

They did have a HUGE basketball game on Friday night
