A Brown recruit and a Brown de-commit both pegged to attend 2014 NHL Draft Combine in Toronto

http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/eca...ited-to-nhl-draft-combine-toronto-greg-carvel

It's hard to consider Blake Weyrick a Brown "de-commit" when his "commitment" only lasted the few days it took his family to realize that there was no way they would qualify for financial assistance. Blake, we hardly knew ye...

On the other hand, we look forward to seeing Tyler Bird in a Brown uniform next fall. Hopefully he won't pull a Kevin Roy.

Incidentally, what is Kevin Roy doing these days? Still rollerblading down Huntington Avenue?

Huge pick up for Brendan Whittet and his staff hauling in former Austin Prep goaltender Elijah Harris. Great goaltender with good reflexes. He's a student of the game, loves learning the position and he's a great kid.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Curious to hear the Brown fan perspective on Perl, who will assume a position on the Harvard bench . I know he was only at Brown for 1 yr, but curious if there was impact.

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

I was just thinking- Whittet's playoff record is pretty hit-or-miss, isn't it?

2010: Beat RPI 2-1; beat Yale 2-1; lost to Cornell; won 3rd place game vs. SLU
2011: Swept at QU
2012: Swept at QU
2013: Beat Clarkson 2-0; beat RPI 2-1; beat Quinnipiac; lost in championship game vs. Union
2014: Swept at SLU

So it's either get swept in the first round, or go on an improbable run to Albany/Atlantic City. Nothing in between.

I suppose I'm ok with this, so long as the improbable deep runs balance out the early exits. 2014-15 will be a big year for Brendan in terms of establishing the program as a consistent, long-term contender.

One of our player's parents is saying on Twitter that Rossi is tranferring to SCSU.
Anybody know anything on this?

Belay that request for info. We may have gotten our signals crossed. We just picked up Nate Widman, whom Brown fans likely had realized wasn't coming back. You may still have Rossi.

Rossi wouldn't have been a big loss for us, nor a big gain for SCSU. He's only played for Brown, which is obviously not at the same level of SCSU, when injuries have required it. He has generally played solidly, but has mostly been unnoticeable (which I suppose, for a defenseman, has merit in and of itself).

Widman is a difference-maker, if he can get back to his pre-injury form. He most likely would have become our best defenseman by now had circumstances been different. Best wishes for him, and for SCSU, a team I fondly recall Brown thoroughly beating in Providence, 4-1, when it was ranked in the top five nationally in the early 2000's (but that two-game series out in Minnesota a couple years ago didn't happen, ok?). :D ;)
