Brown at RPI - 11/7/09

Re: Brown at RPI - 11/7/09

Was there also a missed goal? WRPI thought the refs missed a goal during the 5x3 (in the first); in particular, it seemed to them that the puck had bounced off of the pipe at the BACK of the net. From what I could see, that seemed more than reasonable. Were you able to see that from your vantage point?

I'm up in the Press Box, it sure seemed like it went in to me. Looked like it bounced off the side pipe, off something in the back, and then out. We'll be able to review it once I get the video on the RPI TV website.

Re: Brown at RPI - 11/7/09

Is RPI playing a very conservative and defensive style in the third period?

Edit: Guess they cranked up the offense a bit.

Re: Brown at RPI - 11/7/09

A little nervous there in the third as we sat on a lead-but we did get the one we needed to breathe a bit. Nice weekend for the boys. We head to the North Country next-hope we can continue the momentum.

Re: Brown at RPI - 11/7/09

Thanks for all who watched either of the RPI TV streams (B2 or Ustream).

We'd all strongly appreciate it if you email feedback over any aspect of our production. In fact, I think we'd prefer it if you went rough on us (though do it through my email!). Please email hamilr2@rpi.edu (my personal email) or sports@rpitv.org with any feedback.

Thanks for watching. We won't be back until 12/4 and 12/5, as most of us will be home for thanksgiving.

When was the last time we enjoyed a weekend ECAC sweep?

Re: Brown at RPI - 11/7/09

Great game to watch. Was up with the band. If anyone is wondering, during the 3rd period, yes, I was my namesake. And I saw many of you had questions. Since I had the best angle in HFH...

The 5v3 in question was NOT a goal. It very clearly hit the post and stayed out. If it had gone completely over the line, I would have complained to you-know-what about it.

I'm a little disappointed we couldn't get maximum capitalization on the threesomes, but I will definitely take one goal over zero. And I would have thought we'd won by more, but our number was higher than Brown's, and that's all that counts.

Four point weekend! And 6 out of 8 for the Capital region. Best of luck next week. I'll be here for Clarkson, but be going up to Canton for SLU.

Re: Brown at RPI - 11/7/09

Couple things:

Burgdoerfer's penalty in the first was obvious (to me) as he grabbed the Brown player up around the shoulders/neck and rode him into the boards. I chalked that up to obvious. He also seemed to get away with a hit from behind later on - I was convinced he was going to get busted and sent off for it but hey, whatever.

The advantages to Brown being a boring dump and chase trap team is that while there wasn't any sustained attack time in the third for RPI... Brown didn't really have any either save for one flurry late in the third. Just two teams dumping in, chasing after. Rinse, repeat.

RPIs timeout in the first was another "light a fire under the team" timeout as the power plays were spent dicking around, being cute and losing puck battles. These are the things you have to do with a young and very talented group, you have to tell them that sometimes the talent alone isn't going to let them coast.

Solid win though - time to get things done up north.
