Brown @ #3 CCT (10/30)

Re: Brown @ #3 CCT (10/30)

How did the defense "limit scoring opportunities"? The got out shot 34 to 9. The opponent was able to get 34 shots to the net. Are you saying that there could have been 70 shots on net but the defense thwarted those opportunities?

I was thinking the same thing. Jamison played great making several highlight saves. I thought overall, Brown was better than I expected. Based on "Cookie's" thrashing of the coaching staff, I was expecting a bunch of benders.

There is a difference between shots and scoring opportunities. I was not at this game, but against Providence the team was able to keep the vast majority of the shots on net outside the prime scoring area. Doing that can mean the difference between winning a game and not..or in this case being blown out or not.

I understand your point to a degree. This is not soccer, where they count everything that is throw at the net whether a save was made or not. If the puck ends up in the net but is not from a prime scoring area does it count as a scoring opportunity? I too was not at the game, but usually a large disparity in shots( especially when one team doesn't reach double digits in shots) means there were usually quite a few good scoring opportunities. I'm sure someone who was at the game could give us their point of view.

True enough, however I have seen a fair number of games where the shots were 2:1 or more but 90% were from outside the dots and well above the circles. There is also the fact that a team can shoot till they are blue in the face, but all are clearly visible to the goalie. Usually when they see 'em they stop 'em. Add in good play by the D clearing out rebounds (if there are any) and you have the makings of that which prompted this discussion.

I watched the game. Clarkson had MANY scoring opportunities on the doorstep but Jamieson came up big. There were actually very few shots from the points.
