Brice Alaska Goal Rush (Oct 14 & 15): UAF, UAA, UNO, Mercyhurst

Re: Brice Alaska Goal Rush (Oct 14 & 15): UAF, UAA, UNO, Mercyhurst

btw, Mav fans, did Alex Hudson make the trip up? or is he still suspended?

Re: Brice Alaska Goal Rush (Oct 14 & 15): UAF, UAA, UNO, Mercyhurst

Great game by UAA to beat UNO 3-0. NO penalties for either team, wow. Congrats Seawolves!! :)

Congrats to UAA! Terrific game. I was impressed with them coming right out of the gate flying. UNO didn't look much like a "ranked" team in my opinion. Be interesting to see how it turns out tomorrow. I was really glad to see such disciplined hockey, from both teams. It was really awesome to hear several UAF fans talking about UAA and saying "this could be the team that...." Seeing different players (Pustin and Sproule in particular) come up big was good to see.

Mercyhurst played better than they had in past years at Alaska tournaments. Though nothing stupendous, I think they were a bit more on top of things than some previous happenings. UAF still was able to outplay them for much of the game, particularly the first period. From then on, the game was more back and forth. However, goaltending seemed to be the weakest point for both teams. Though both goalies came up big, some of the goals were definetly awfully weak. Interesting to see how things go for both teams tomorrow.

On another note, it was nice to meet Shackler Rat tonight. Talk about small world!! I enjoyed our conversation and look forward to undoubtedly more to come in the future.

I really wanted to listen to the UAF game, but I couldn't get KCBF 820AM to come in on my computer (it worked earlier on their preseason game against the Canadian team). Anyone know what's going on? I never had a problem picking up a UAF game when they were on the FM station.

I enjoyed our conversation also! Your team did look very good last night and I think your going to have a real good season. I'm not trying to jinks you, but I predict that UAA will host a playoff round this year! I'll be there again tonight, maybe we'll continue our conversation.

Re: Brice Alaska Goal Rush (Oct 14 & 15): UAF, UAA, UNO, Mercyhurst

Ummm, okay. After all the grief that certain UA_ fans give us about attendance at the Sully, I would like to once again point out your attendance for your own tourney. There were only 2,108 fans there and the arena holds 4,324. It probably looked fuller on TV than it was (although it did look sparse), because those visible seats actually have backs on them and that is where fans try to sit.

Good Game Seawolves See you tonight keep up the good work and have fun .

Re: Brice Alaska Goal Rush (Oct 14 & 15): UAF, UAA, UNO, Mercyhurst

The Nooks may have come away with a 5-2 win against Mercyhurst last night, but I can't imagine the coaches are too happy. I thought we looked very pretty sloppy overall, and often played with little passion, even though we outshot the Lakers 43-23. Give the Lakers credit. I thought they were out-gunned a bit, but played harder than the Nooks.

We scored 5 goals , but that included a shorty and an empty-netter. We also went 0-3 on the pp against a team that was somewhat out-matched. So I think we are still struggling to find a scoring touch. The good thing is that every so often you could see the potential we have for speedy and quality rushes up the ice. It will come.

Regardless of results, early in the season coaches like to see improvement from week to week. Hopefully tonight we can more than make up for what I think was a pretty lack-luster performance against the Lakers.

The Lakers represented well, faced a lot of traffic, scrambbled and played a gritty game all night...

Thompson got his first career start and had a solid game, in spite of one fluky knuckle-puck goal...

Strang faced 43 shots on the night, and played a solid game....

The Nooks usually controlled the corners, and Mr. Yaremchuk had an all around good effort with his work along the boards and the GWG and an ENG...

Garrick Perry scored his first collegiate goal on this effort to make it 1-0 Nooks...

Carlo Finucci, who had a goal and two assists on the night, scored on this wideeee open shot thanks to a great pass from Cody Kunyk to make it 2-0 Nooks...

Nik Yaremchuk got his first goal of the night courtesy of a Carlo Finucci drop pass to make it 3-1 Nooks...

Ron Meyers made it 4-1 Nooks with this shorty about mid-way through the second period...

Nik Yaremchuk added an empty net goal to make it 5-2 Nooks and Thompson continued his solid play to earn his first collegiate win.

Go Nooks!

Seriously Who cares?can we talk hockey rather than attendance?

As for the UAA Game, i was very impressed with that Pustin, Currier & Gellert line, and for the fact we had NO penalities makes me even happier very clean game. Congrats to Gundy on for his 1st career collegiate shutout.

Squarebanks quote: Sullivan was so dead you could hear St. Cloud's coach yelling at Eddy to "sit down in the box" after taking a penalty. (Ummm, the Carlson was just as dead for the UAA / UNO game last night).

Birdman quote: With the numbers you guys pack into the Sully, when I go for a beer half the attendance is gone.

So to answer your question, _airbanks fans birdman and squarebanks sure seem to care. When they stop with their obsession about the attendance at the Sully, I'll stop throwing it back in their faces. ;)

Didn't UAA pound a nationally ranked conference rival last night?

Ok...UAA reported the UAF/SCSU attendance as 3,307. Apparently the Seawolves have perfected a cutting-edge mathematics theory and haven't yet informed the rest of the world, because the number of people actually in Sully for that game was in the low (maybe mid) hundreds. I know, 5:00 PM start, nobody in Rage City cares, blah blah blah.

And by the way, somebody gave me an Aces ticket last night. Announced attendance was 5,700 (although thanks to Bobby Lester's incessantly annoying PA cheerleading it sounded like twice that).

I'm happy someone besides me recognizes that Bob Lester is the worst arena announcer eVAh.

Aces games are fun in terms of the actual game, but the cowbells and cheerleading could stand to go away. Lester is like a pied-piper for their fans.

He is an extremely horrible PA announcer and biggest aces homer ever, btw DD you got the lines for tonights game?

Last season I was talking with a Sully employee and they were a bit disappointed that Lyle Woods doesn't get the UAA fans riled up like Lester does. Ummm, he CAN'T. NCAA prohibits it.

great job by the seawolves this weekend, its a great day to be a seawolf.

Another nice win by the Seawolves! Great to see Portwood get rewarded for his hard work with two goals, and Mellor get his first collegiate goal. Way to go boys!!
