Re: Brice Alaska Goal Rush (Oct 14 & 15): UAF, UAA, UNO, Mercyhurst
The Nooks may have come away with a 5-2 win against Mercyhurst last night, but I can't imagine the coaches are too happy. I thought we looked very pretty sloppy overall, and often played with little passion, even though we outshot the Lakers 43-23. Give the Lakers credit. I thought they were out-gunned a bit, but played harder than the Nooks.
We scored 5 goals , but that included a shorty and an empty-netter. We also went 0-3 on the pp against a team that was somewhat out-matched. So I think we are still struggling to find a scoring touch. The good thing is that every so often you could see the potential we have for speedy and quality rushes up the ice. It will come.
Regardless of results, early in the season coaches like to see improvement from week to week. Hopefully tonight we can more than make up for what I think was a pretty lack-luster performance against the Lakers.
The Lakers represented well, faced a lot of traffic, scrambbled and played a gritty game all night...
Thompson got his first career start and had a solid game, in spite of one fluky knuckle-puck goal...
Strang faced 43 shots on the night, and played a solid game....
The Nooks usually controlled the corners, and Mr. Yaremchuk had an all around good effort with his work along the boards and the GWG and an ENG...
Garrick Perry scored his first collegiate goal on this effort to make it 1-0 Nooks...
Carlo Finucci, who had a goal and two assists on the night, scored on this wideeee open shot thanks to a great pass from Cody Kunyk to make it 2-0 Nooks...
Nik Yaremchuk got his first goal of the night courtesy of a Carlo Finucci drop pass to make it 3-1 Nooks...
Ron Meyers made it 4-1 Nooks with this shorty about mid-way through the second period...
Nik Yaremchuk added an empty net goal to make it 5-2 Nooks and Thompson continued his solid play to earn his first collegiate win.
Go Nooks!
