Bracketology and the PairWise Rankings II

Re: Bracketology and the PairWise Rankings II

Would be quite unfair to Yale to swap them. Last year Yale as #5 seed overall ended up playing Vermont who was #9 overall due to avoiding intraconference matchups. Lets hope they aren't given the same fate. Then again, I can drive to Worcester.

A REQUEST:
We've been having a little debate about how much LOSING to Brown HELPED Yale in overall seeding. Could someone please run the Pairwise with Yale making the ECAC tournament and then losing in quarters to St. Lawrence and then in consolation game to Union. What would their ranking be? Would they still even be in tournament? Lots of interesting debate to be had there.....

The argument about Yale losing early helping their seeding isn't as strong as it is in the other major conferences. That's because by and large, late in most conference tournaments, you're usually smack dab up against a number of TUCs. Losing there is sometimes worse than losing earlier to a non-TUC. In the ECAC it's not as prevalent. Assuming that the situation you described had been real, the only fallout Yale would have potentially taken from that would be the Union loss, since Union was a TUC and St. Lawrence wasn't. Often, other teams risk a pair of TUC losses in the conference championship round - see also Ferris State - that jeopardizes their position much more. Would Yale have potentially slipped? Yeah, every TUC loss hurts, especially late in the season when you don't have any more opportunities to make it up down the road. Would it have been disastrous? Hard to say. Probably not given the way everything else shook out.

The "We Gotta Get Michigan To Detroit" Bracket...

Michigan is 2-0-0 in the NCAA against DU. DU has been playing poorly in the XCEL lately.

St. Paul
RIT vs. Denver
Michigan vs. Cornell

Fort Wayne
Alabama-Huntsville vs. Miami
Yale vs. Bemidji State

Albany
Vermont vs. Wisconsin
Northern Michigan vs. St. Cloud State

Worcester

Alaska vs. Boston College
New Hampshire vs. North Dakota

Nightmare for Denver. God no...

That looks more like the "We Gotta Get Miami to Detroit" bracket to me.

The DIY Rankings on TBRW are awesome. I switched the Brown-Yale result on Sunday and then, for the final weekend in Albany, I did exactly what you wanted: Cornell over Union, St. Lawrence over Yale, with Cornell winning the ECAC and Union winning the consolation game.

Yale's ranking in the Pairwise switched from 9 to 10 (they got switched with NMU).

Wow..that's a fun tool. I changed just 2 UVM scores. A loss to MC to a win and a loss to UNH to a win (they were up in the unh game i think then lost it by giving up 2) and they went from 14 to 6.. Shows you what a loss here and there do..

Re: Bracketology and the PairWise Rankings II

I'm shocked that Michigan is in Fort Wayne.

Really.

Re: Bracketology and the PairWise Rankings II

So Yale is in Worcester? That's a brutal switch. Or does Yale go to St Paul and New Hampshire goes to Worcester....

Re: Bracketology and the PairWise Rankings II

I thought the goal was to prevent inter-conference match-ups. We could easily see a CCHA or CHA only final for the Ft. Wayne bracket.

That being said, GO BEAVERS!!! :)

Re: Bracketology and the PairWise Rankings II

Can Yale go anywhere but
worcester now?

It's between them and NMU...given the concern over attendance, Yale in Worcester and Northern in St Paul makes the most sense.

Re: Bracketology and the PairWise Rankings II

Barry Melrose in the Ivy League, now that is priceless. good show so far
