Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

Moscow ID; Michigan Tech 4, AIC 2
AIC took an early lead on two nearly identical first period plays, as Tech's goalie mishandled passes back from his own defensemen. The errant own-goals gave the YellowJackets confidence that they might be able to avoid another trip to the FutileFour, but their confidence waned as the Huskies mounted a relentless barrage of six shots on goal over the final forty minutes of play.

Good to see Tech recover from that gong show against Clarkson and show everyone else just why we're the laughingstock of the WCHA. I couldn't be prouder.

PROMOTE RUSSELL NOW!!!1!

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

Put the word out on 15 or 20 meters, so only long-distance hams hear about it, and the signal skips over the locals.

Shortwave - I like it! Not only is it inaccessible to everyone but radio enthusiasts who probably don't care about hockey, but it can be sent in Morse code to make it even more unintelligible to someone who happens to be passing by. That, and since every "humanity all dies" movie has ham radios in it, there's that air of the apocalypse about transmitting scores this way. :D

Alternately, let's see about sneaking the scores into a farm report broadcast.

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

Cracker's Neck Tennessee:
The BFB Committee took time out in route to the FutileFour to make an important announcement.

"We are pleased to report that no players from any of our sixteen team tournament field have seen fit to leave college early to pursue professional hockey careers." Acting BFB Committee Chair Francis Bedwetter continued to say "This either reflects a solid commitment to amateur sports, or a validation of the shallowness of our talent pool. Either way, it is something in which we can be proud."

The committee, chose this quaintly named hamlet near the Virginia and North Carolina borders to make this announcement, primarily because there was nothing else to do while waiting for their car to be repaired. The rented 1974 AMC Pacer struck a deer in early morning fog Tuesday. There were no injuries reported, other than the deer.

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

how about CB radios for next years communications. reporters could catch rides with truckers, no need for expensive car rentals.

The third review on that link about the perverted staff offers much potential for hilarity.

I like how the post complains that it's not place for friends and family because of multiple perverted staff, yet..."we tend to go every Friday."

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

The perverted staff was a central element in this venue's bid to host the event. That, and their promise to treat the committee to an evening at Bubba's Barbeque and Bordello.

Is it possible this purported 'perverted staffmember" is actually a Republican?

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

My apologies if it's already been mentioned, but for the East Regional I'd like to suggest Fort DuPont in Washington, DC.

My memories are from about 15 years ago, so things may have changed, but the important parts have not.

The ice was usually in bad condition due to a homeless man who ran the zamboni over the parts of the ice he deemed needy. It was always hot and stuffy despite never being warm in the spots you want it to be if you were in the stands.

The important part here is the location. I will put Fort Dupont Rink up against any other. Less than a block away is Dupont Circle where you can be accosted by transvestite hookers and a block in the other direction is responsible for more murders than any other location in DC (and that's saying something).

I think if the committee takes into consideration the constant peril that not only the players will be engaged in, but also the ever present fear of death that the fans will enjoy you will see fit to make Fort Dupont the home of the East Regional, if not the Futile Four itself.

As the Chair of the Flowood Ice Rink Welcoming Committee, I'm happy to announce that we made sure all three of our perverted staff members, two of whom are registered sex offenders, will be working every Futile Four game. In fact, they're the only staff we'll have on hand for these games.

The perverted staff was a central element in this venue's bid to host the event. That, and their promise to treat the committee to an evening at Bubba's Barbeque and Bordello.

We forgot we made this promise and will not be able to go through with it. Neither myself nor anyone else on the Flowood Welcoming Committee made the effort to actually get to Flowood for these games. We decided that our perverted workers were more likely to do something stupid and disgusting if they didn't feel like we were keeping an eye on them.

Score update????

I called up Johnnie James (our only worker with a cell phone) a couple minutes ago to try and get an update. Because there's no scoreboard in the Ice Rink, he had to walk over to the benches and ask one of the coaches. I'm not sure if he ever got there, though. He said, "This student trainer looks damm fine," and then hung up.

Fort Dupont Rink is Southeast... Dupont Circle is in Northwest... while one could probably describe Dupont Circle as "fabulous", I would imagine that Fort Dupont Rink's location west of RFK is anything but fabulous.

Losers advance to the National Chumpionship Game:
Monday April 5, 2:00PM

An electrical failure at the hotel where both the BG and UConn teams were staying has forced the postponment of today's scheduled semifinals. Ravi Hamissan, owner of the Jackson East TravelLodge explained through an interperter "Both teams had requests for 5AM wake-up calls, but without any power, they never got sent."

When neither team arrived at the arena, the BFB Committee was stumped. "We have never established a protocol for this situation" said BFB Chair Francis Bedwetter. "There was available ice time later in the day, but we all wanted to watch the basketball games."

According to reasonably reliable sources, the games are now scheduled as follows:

BG v UConn Sunday April 4 at 1:30pm
Niagara v AIC Sunday April 4 at 4:45pm

Chumpionship: Mon April 5 at 2:00pm

Are these times Eastern? Central? or Greenwich Mean? I'd hate to miss one of these games...

Local (Central Daylight) Time, altho the committee is not sure if that is one hour ahead or behind eastern time. We can never seem to keep that straight.

Re: Bottom Feeders Bracket/Futile Four 2010

Semi-Final #1: Connecticut 2, Bowling Green 1.

Bowling Green's game strategy was obvious, taking a page from the script of "Slapshot" en route to hard fought defeat in their BFB/F4 semifinal matchup against the UConn Huskies. BG took a BFB tournament record 316 penalty minutes in the game, playing an astonishing 59:53 shorthanded at least one man.

In all twelve Falcons were disqualified, and it appears as though at least five of those DQ's will carry over to tomorrow's chumpionship game. BG's Kai Kantola waited nearly seven seconds after the opening faceoff to start the festivities, delivering a vicious baseball type two hander across the back of Huskie defenseman Alex Gerke.

UConn's powerplay clipped along at a sizzling 7.1% (2 for 28). BG's lone tally (shorthanded, of course) was scored by reserve goaltender Phil Greer. Greer was pressed into service as a forward midway through the third period as the Falcon bench was shortened by multiple disqualifications. "The last time I scored a goal was in Mites." said Greer. "I'd forgotten how much fun it was."

BG will face the loser of the Niagara-American International game tomorrow. The Falcons are in position to join Michigan Tech as the only schools in history to have an NCAA Championship and a BFB Title.
