Bottom Feeders 2021: Put Em Outside the COVID Bubble

MissThundercat

Are the cis okay?
For these teams, it's necessary.

As we all know, the Bottom Feeders tournament runs every year, "highlighting" the worst teams in D-1 hockey. I'm your Adorable Delightful Commish, while FadeToBlack&Gold and John J. MacInnes are my right and left hands respectively. I owe Fade a pot of good coffee and JJM a beer or two for their help with this tournament.

It'll be a few months before we see any live action, but it doesn't mean we can't talk about it now. Your preliminary Top (Bottom/Switch 5):

1. UAH. Why did we save this program?
2. SLU(t). Saints of sucking.
3. Brown. Just the color of their underpants at this point.
4. RPI. They missed last year, but as a few of their fans can tell me, they can go in reverse real quick.
5. UAA. Unless they get a UAH-style "save the program" effort going and it's hella successful, we'll pay tribute to their departure in our own special way.

I'm proposing that the two teams from That Other Tournament who tested positive for COVID and had to forfeit should be forced to participate in a play-in round against the last two teams to make the BFB. Maximum virus spread and plenty of mutations for all!

That would be amazing.

Also, I have a big favor to ask of my right and left hands. Can either of you compile the Worst 16 list with the play in game included? I have to run out and do some things today, including weird things like "laundry" and "buying groceries."

You know we NEVER do anything on time here at the BFB. With that in mind, here's the seedings going in.

1. Ferris State
2. UAH
3. Miami (not the fun Miami)
4. Holy Cross
5. Colorado College
6. SLU(t)
7. Air Force
8. LIU
9. Vermont
10. UNH
11. Colgate
12. Maine
13. Ohio State
14. Michigan State
15. Merrimack

Play in game: Michigan vs. Notre Dame

Disappointing that Clarkson didn't get an invite - knocked out of their conference tournament because of a party with the women's team (and breaking COVID protocols) seems like a BFB winner to me...

4 teams from the BiG. Given their performance in the bouncey ball tournament it seems fitting.

Wild to see SLU(t) still in there given the audacity they had to win their conference tournament (if you can call a 3 team "tournament" a tournament).

Location this year: we really didn't have time to find one this year, so there is a vacant lot by my house. No ice and the temperature is 65.

Fade, JJM, we can make that work.

Yowser! Bentley must be improving not to make the BFT this season.

Since they're all coming to my neighborhood, no need for regionals. Every "regional" will instead be old Nickelodeon shows

Is there a bubble in your neighborhood?
With that being said, normally the losers advance. What happens if one (or more) teams develop COVID? SLU(t), Michigan and ND already had issues in that other tournament.

If someone gets COVID, maybe just that person doesn't play. Replace them with the equipment manager, a random fan, or better yet, a random passerby on the street with no knowledge of the sport. Or strap skates on their hospital bed and give them an extra stick to push themselves around with.

Hey, maybe they need to have covid to play in this tournament! Disqualify those with antibodies, vac certificates, or if they don't have covid.

Set schedules, deadlines...we don't do that here.

That said, I'll have the matchups done later and between Fade, JJM, and I, we just might have results trickling in by middle next week. Coffee first.

Lo, the tolling of the distant bells are the harbinger of the return of the Bottom Feeders.

Beware ye, all who value dear the beautiful game of hockey, for they come to rob you of the joy of puck, stick, and ice.

If you play games in either Montgomery or Prince George's county in Maryland, the games must be no check. 2 parents per player.
