Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Why you like it so much? 2 NCHC teams including arguably the best NCHC team. BU would have to beat 2 of the top 6 teams in the country in both PWR and KRACH. Add in that BU is out west and I think it is a very tough bracket.

Better than the Cincinnati bracket. They're going to be out West anyway so that variable would remain constant no matter where they are. We don't seem to play well against ND (and especially out there would be tough), NU is a wild card and Michigan is very tough. He's probably (if I can speculate for him) also thinking that the "pedigree" of St. Cloud State and Ferris State are not the caliber of the teams in Cincy. But, either way, it's going to be VERY tough to go out there and win two games. I wonder how much the 2 week layoff is going to hurt as well...

BU fans: Don't underestimate Denver. I would much rather have Michigan as the #2 seed than Denver.

Well, we already played Denver at the beginning of the season (a 5-4 OT win). Second, I don't think we will be underestimating ANYONE the way we have been playing. And, regarding who the seeds are, we don't have any control over that either. :)

Just a hunch. East>West

If any of you are headed to St Paul, assuming the bracket is correct, check in with the MN thread or feel free to email me. Some of us still tailgate and would like to meet (or catch up/re-connect) with you.

I'm on the fence, depending on the crowd, but leaning towards showing up. There was a minor snafu for tailgating this weekend, but we found a lot near the X that is friendly to our ways. :)

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

here is wodon's guess

Albany
1. Quinnipiac vs. 16. RIT
8. Lowell vs. 10. Yale

St. Paul
2. St. Cloud State vs. 15. Ferris State
6. Denver vs. 9. Boston University

Cincinnati
3. North Dakota vs. 13. Northeastern
7. Michigan vs. 12. Notre Dame

Worcester
4. Providence vs. 14. Minnesota-Duluth
5. Boston College vs. 11. Harvard

He nailed it.

Yup. And BU got arguably the "best" draw they could given that had to go West anyway. Not underestimating anyone (and BU is not playing well - we'll see what the two week layoff does)...but the reality is if we play well, being in this bracket is probably the best chance to advance. If we don't, if wouldn't matter who we played.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

...i said neither one is a good matchup, i meant for us.

Relatively speaking. I mean, would you rather play Providence (2 ties) or Lowell (1-3 this year)? And we avoid ND, who we have only beaten once since they entered the league. Nothing is a good matchup when you're not playing well. I mean, you have to reduce their chances a notch just because they are traveling West, where they typically don't play well. They are going to need to be able to handle adversity. Let's see if they can.

I agree, it's certainly not a bad draw - no major home team attendance advantage despite SCSU being there, DU is playing well but comes in dropping one and a tie in the NCHC, and Ferris. On paper it looks like a decent draw but despite my arguments against your points earlier in the week, I'm in the same camp as you that the team is playing very poorly coming into this. They could turn it around and they certainly have the ability to beat any of these three teams, but I'm not entirely optimistic that they will.

At least it's not the bracket that had been projected earlier in the week out there of UND-Minny and us against Michigan.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

So we get 3 NCHC vs HE games in the first round. Could very easily decide if the trophy is going west or staying east.

The only potentially reasonable matchups are RIT, Minnesota-Duluth and Ferris State. Everyone else is tough, and those three are no pushovers, either.

BU only played well in one of the four HE playoff games, and that was the loss to Lowell in Game 1, when they were better than either of the wins against UMass. The Terriers know they can play with Denver. We see if the time off works in their favor. If it doesn't, it wouldn't matter, anyway.

No, neither am I and if I implied that I didn't mean to. I am of the camp that it is always best to be playing at your peak (or close to it) as you enter the post-season. I'm not a big advocate of the "turn on the switch" philosophy. But, having said that, nobody knows which team will show up...it will certainly be interesting! My point was just that all things being equal, the draw could have been much, much worse. If they aren't playing well then it won't matter anyway.
