My bad.
Re: Boston College Season 2014 - 2015 Thread: PART I
I think the first period was about what you expect from BC-Merrimack. Second period was terrific. For large portions of the 3rd they were also terrific. Seney really is a good player for Merrimack. This game with some luck could have been a blowout given the huge difference in zone time, shots (not just on goal), and faceoffs. It was a shooting gallery for large stretches in favor of BC. Here and there Merrimack would respond for a little bit and made it an interesting game.
The penalty to Smith was hilariously bad - I really have no idea how he got the extra penalty against BU last week in the scrum when Roberto threw his hissy fit and this kid caught another bad break by essentially standing there doing nothing while trying to dig out a puck on the wall. Santini's penalty I am ok with but there was serious embellishment to sell the call. Whatever don't care that much about it - it was an awful shift and start to the 3rd period.
The first goal was a great result of a lot of little things that were done right, including the body positioning of Tuch to shield the puck, the pass up to the point, and the shoulder fake by Hanifin across the blue line which had everyone cheating and created his shooting lane. The second goal was simply a great play by Savage and an impressive job by Calnan to get that goal from in tight with what was a difficult pass to received and turn into a scoring chance.
Demko stood tall when he had to especially late on a flurry on the right post and his poke check may have saved the game as well. Not to mention the penalty shot save.
Hanifin made some bad decisions including a bad turnover right at the 5 min mark of the first. He really does try to do too much sometimes (Hoky is right). Got burned by the big Merrimack kid down the right wing on their only goal.
Matheson - not sure what to say. Absolutely maddening that BC was in control of the game and he even attempted a pass that was totally unnecessary on the powerplay. A flubbed pass is one thing but that is more of a bad decision that will drive the coaches crazy. There are a lot of things you can do there, you can just bang it right back into the zone if you're in real trouble even though it would be a turnover at least you can change lines and regroup after they clear it down. You can pin it to the wall if a guy is coming at you (no one was) and wait for help. You can skate it backward and buy yourself time if you need to. BC was very fortunate there to have those sequences of events go their way. Very very fortunate. I'm not sure how the team would have responded if that went to a 1-1 game.
Not feeling good about this Saturday tilt - Yukon is tough and blocks a lot of shots and has great goaltending. Need to fire up the powerplay big time and stay out of the box if they want to win it. Could be a similar game to this one. Hopefully this snowstorm rolls in and keeps the mongoloids from CT in their state.
Watching the Bruins-Avs now it is crazy to see such a pronounced difference when you watch these two games back to back.
