Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

Re: Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

From the ESPN.com writeup:

Is it me or does that sound contradictory?

Superfan Joe: The quickest way to Detroit is to go to Buffalo then pick up the 401 across Ontario, then back into Motown at Windsor. (I remember this from when I was doing these crazy road trips way back when.) Remember to check into immigration requirements at the border - you may need a passport now.

I'm almost positive you do need a passport now. Joe, the caravan idea is definitely the best way to go on a budget, it's what we did in 07 when BU played 2 in Ann Arbor. Since not all of us had passports, we drove along 90. It's a bit longer, but there's no time lost at customs, and it's a ridiculously easy drive with no traffic except cleveland. With a group of 25 which was slightly larger than we had, inevitably someone won't have a passport, so this might be your safest bet. If you want more info, our mutual friend from braintree who may or may not be a liverpool fan that writes for inside hockey was on the trip with me and he can tell you more.

All hatred aside, it's great that you guys are making the effort to get out there, and props to BC for helping you out, BU only made a small effort to get a few extra tickets for students, but didn't help defray costs or anything, then dicked everyone over by giving them out via raffle (open to the entire campus) instead of the usual first come-first serve to ensure those who want them, get them. It's a great way to meet people and have a great time as a student. Drain your bank account dry, you won't remember what you spent those dollars on 10 years from now if you don't go, but you won't forget going there for the rest of your life, so just make it happen. It was absolutely amazing that we had 2 student sections in DC, (hey, I have to hold onto something this year) and being there with your friends and those who followed the team with you all year makes it that much more special. Best of luck putting this together, I hope as many of you as possible can make it out there.

For those of you roadtripping through Buffalo...you MUST go to Duff's Wings. 3651 Sheridan Dr. in Buffalo.

Best Wings Ever. It's about 4 miles off the 90 but it's definitely worth the detour.

Re: Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

Boston to Detroit is a 12 hour drive and as someone mentioned, quicker to cut through Canada. I've done it many times as I have family out there.

Re: Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

You mean they're actually bringing the band? They didn't just assume they'd all rather spend the weekend with their families?
that decision not to bring the band to SF for the bowl game still irks me and was embarrassing . apparently someone is listening or woke up because for the hockey team to actually have the band there and the sainted football team not speaks for itself:rolleyes:

Re: Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

Slightly off topic here, but interesting in that it could relate to the hockey program down the road when York retires.

BC is firing Skinner today. Press conf at 3 pm.

Glad he's gone - mediocrity is not tolerated here and while Gene has done some interesting things that I don't agree with, I'm cool with this one. Hope we can get Coen back to BC or the Cornell coach. If he doesn't get his top choices and we get stuck with another chump, he's going to be looking for a job soon too.

not to continue off topic but i agree.......Skinner did some good things and had some very good teams but it's stale, time for a change.I don't like the type players he recruits or the type of game they play. we need to be more like Duke with the type of players we recruit....................or Butler;) ........now back to hockey. i wonder who vegas has as the favorite in this? i'm not a gambler and wonder if they have a line but i would be willing to bet:eek: that BC is behind Miami and Wisconsin as favorites

Meanwhile, DeFilippo struts around as though he's doused in teflon. The debacle with the football coach made me wonder whether Skinner wanted to be under that sort of 'regime.'

All we heard about after last season was how GREAT this year would be. In other words, this year was the 'next year' they talked about last year. It didn't turn out so good. And now, people are saying that the 2010-2011 campaign could be Championship caliber. Please.

Thank GOODNESS for the stability and excellence of the hockey program.

Re: Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

You guys wouldn't have all these problems if you just cut your football team and moved your basketball team to a crappy conference no one has ever heard of. :p :D :(

He was loyal. He was told last week that he was being let go. He asked for it to be kept quiet so he could look for another position. He iterviewed with St. John's with BC's blessing.

Re: Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

Skinner ran his course and had some great years, some ok years, and some bad years. Personally, I'd like to see BC avoid the Bill Coens of the world and get a young assistant at an ACC school who can recruit. Al needed to go, but he brought some talent here in Bell, Smith, Dudley, etc.

And thank goodness Gene gives a rats *** about the hockey program. Stay away and let them keep winning.

Re: Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

One of things mentioned was that they wanted a coach to bring in high attendance. Is this a new issue? I thought besides football each BC sport had mediocre attendance?

Or did BC basketball used to sell out?

Yeah, this was misreported on the sports radio stations this morning, it looked like the Jags situation for a while.

Re: Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

sure to miss the days of the Big East teams filling up Conte with RIVALS like Syracuse, UConn, G-Town, St.Johns, Providence,Villanova etc. , the place was actually alive. Now we draw great for UNC and Duke (when we have that game here) like evertyone else does and not much else and absoultely no energy in the building. ACC for football- a good thing. ACC for basketball-not a good thing at all, IMO, the financial stuff aside...........

Re: Boston College Hockey Thread: Frozen once again

Always liked Al and know he'll get another job somewhere. I also have no problem with them trying to do better after a good 13 year run. Skinner saved hoops like TOB and York saved their respective sports.
