Boston College Hockey 2026 - 2027

Yea I think BC recruits, especially under GB, are committing to the school way more than the coaches. BU is probably somewhat similiar because of the history and access to the Beappot. Not to say they aren't comfortable and have relationships with the coaches but I don't think recruits would bolt. They could open things up and wait until a replacement is announced to either recommit or look elsewhere but I think a new staff would likely cut certain guys loose more than kids bailing on BC. Look at what Carvel did when he arrived at UMass. I think he bounced a decent goalie didn't he (was it Boyle?)

A good coach would get the program back on track quickly. More than anything, someone will come in and establish an identity, something we've talked about at length in prior seasons under GB but we haven't done so yet this year. The program has no identity. GB got away with the Harlem Globetrotters roster in 2023-2024 and as the stars have slowly trickled away from the program from that season we're stuck with this crap now and GB has no idea what to do.

I'm more concerned that recruits would decommit from keeping GB than I am from changing coaches. Imagine committing to BC and then hearing the coach just got upgraded.
Don't forget his comment at that time, he (GB) said that most of the work was already done for him when those players committed to BC, especially the 3 freshmen line with almost 200 points in goals & assists. Another words he is saying he didn't do all the recruiting but he got help when others helped him bring those players to BC.

As far as HC experience, I don't think he had that much HC experience but was just one of the coaches on the US Natiional Developement Team. But before accepting BC he did have a stint as HC of USHL team.

Yes, the goaltending is not to the level it usually is. I know there's a bit of a Brown/NU pipeline, but I've wondered if BC tried to land Lawton two years ago when Fowler was leaving?
Recruiting/Player Evaluation is definitely an area that this Staff can be called out on.
Oscar Hemming: 3 goals in 26 games. I know he came in young, but how is he still first line LW?
Although you cannot fault him (Cloutier) on some of those NU goals. A deflection and ineffective coverage where the defenseman are giving too much time and space. You can see it happening before it happens.

former BC Eagle is part of the ownership group of the newest WHL Franchise. Chilliwack's WHL franchise will begin play the 27-28 season. The ownership group has Brett Motherwell, played from 2005-2007. after his 5 year pro career he's had enough business success to get himself into this group, which also includes former Chicago head coach Jeremy Colliton, a UMD and NHL alum Mason Raymond, and two other businessmen from Alberta. Colliton will be Governor, GM, and Head Coach, he and Motherwell played for Bridgeport in 10-11. Motherwell is quoted in that article specifically about him and Colliton wanting to work in junior hockey together, so it seems they're close.

basically starting next season, if there's a kid BC wants to recruit playing in Chilliwack, the degrees of separation are minimal on that alone. not sure how much he'll be around personally but he should have Colliton's ear.

dunno how many others find these interesting but thought it was noteworthy

Interesting on Motherwell. Had a fantastic goal against UND in the Frozen Four many moons ago (maybe 20 years ago? Was it the 2006 game in Milwaukee when Collins had the hat trick or was it 2007 in STL?). Ran into some trouble off the ice. Bummer. Sister played for BC as well.

Anyway, we have UVM this weekend for two more home games starting tonight since it's a home football weekend (FSU has a new coach because they don't tolerate mediocrity and fired their version of Greg Brown). The UVM game last year at Conte was a major red flag for the Brown era sandwiched in between the Beanpot wins when they lost 6-1 and Cloutier rolled out a whopping 0.737 save % before being yanked after UVMs 5th goal and Korec came in to attempt to clean up his mess. BC outshot UVM 16-7 in the opening period and ended the first 20 mins in a 2-0 hole. "It's like deja vu all over again"

Some notables from this matchup:
- UVM is a 47.4% faceoff team so maybe BC can get above 50% on the weekend?
- Michael Hagens scored in each of their games last week. He's averaging 23 mins TOI for UVM this year, has 3 points and is +2. Why can't we get guys like that?
- Jacob Oster has a .941 save % and 1.64 GAA this season. So that's scary and obviously a huge advantage for our opponent, as it is every weekend.

Will we see Jan Korec/Henriquez or will Greg Brown just keep doing the same thing over and over again. Conte is now Bill Murray's house, so a Greg Brown version of Groundhog Day may just be fitting.

Rough one. The first 13 minutes decided it, 3 goals on 8 shots before Henriquez got pulled. After that it was pretty even, shots 21-21 for the night and BC won 33 of 50 draws, and Cloutier only gave up a power-play goal in relief. At 2-5-1 the record's ugly, but they've outshot people most nights. Friday has to start better.

1. Cashman
2. Mayotte
3. Hakstol?
4. Leaman?

I'd like to point out some other top programs that don't screw around and what the immediate results look like for those concerned about recruiting losses by moving on from Greg Brown:

Wisconsin: After 2 straight years of missing the NCAAs (see BC in March), they moved on from Granato and snagged Hastings, an absolutely stud of a coach. Returned to the NCAA tournament in years 1 and 3 (national runner up), 6-0-1 so far this year in season 4.

UND: Brad Berry mess with off-ice problems. 21 wins but missed NCAA tournament plus aforementioned issues ushered in a change regardless of whether he was qualified. Hired Dane Jackson, Frozen Four in year 1 (29 wins).

BU: Albie O'Connell. Got four years, 1 NCAA tournament and 0 FFs. Like Greg Brown, It was apparent he wasn't the guy even at 19-13-3 in his last season (missed NCAAs). BU cans him and gets Pandolfo. 29 wins and Frozen Four in year one, the first of 3 straight FFs and 1 trip to national title game.

Minnesota: too early to tell. Motzko, another nice guy that couldn't win the big one, went from 25 wins and an NCAA tournament (the last of 5 straight) to 11-22-3. One terrible season and he was forced out like BC needs to do with GB. Minnesota had a slow start but starting to play better already.

These are four schools that take hockey seriously and don't tolerate mediocrity. BC not only tolerates it, but rewards it with contract extensions so how long will this go on for?

Come early March it's time to make a move. But again, these programs didn't have any problem with recruits leaving. These commits will be elated with a coaching upgrade if the new staff will have them.
