Boston College hockey 2021-2022

I'm not buying the York wanted an extension take. He's 76 and had the recurring/rolling contract. That doesn't make any sense. Haven't seen that reported anywhere.

And I couldn't care less about the AD being a BC person or that it's a stepping stone job really. But it's time to get some results if the last two ADs are being hired away from you by P5 programs.

Madigan became AD at NU. Maybe York could be interim AD to get through the hockey transition and until they find a replacement.

York will not take an interim AD position, he would rather stay as coach vs. that. He needs time for himself. What I could see is Jerry getting deeply involved in the replacement selection with the AD sealing the contract parts of it.

Are the trustees really going to let Leahy pick another AD? What is Penn St thinking hiring this clown shoe. JY wanted an extension, how do you force him out while interviewing for the PSU AD job!

Gladchuk is laughing his *** off! Leahy never learned because he is an outsider himself, that you need to hire a BC person for AD. They are the only people that will stay and work under Leahy.

The trustees need to bring back JY for another year and force Leahy out next month. This is ridiculous!

Go Eagles!

I'm not familiar with these things, but would trustees actually oust a school president over an athletics matter that doesn't involve scandal or illegality?

I'm not worried about the hockey program, it's lead by alumni anyways, they were always going to chose the next coach.

As for an AD, they really need to hire someone with some BC ties or is from MA this go around

Agree, no reason for the retiring consummate coaching lifer wanting any part of the AD job.

Disagree York will want to play a significant role in hiring his replacement. Look at what happened the last time a long-term BC Hockey head coach had significant input on who would be hired as his successor. I mean, what can go wrong, right? Mind you, the rest of HEA would be rooting for a repeat of the Count Cedorchuk Era, but York has spent the better part of the last 30 years solidifying his own legacy as the greatest coach in the program's history. For him to embark on an uncharacteristic ego trip to put a stamp of approval on the next hire isn't worth the risk to his spotless legacy.

Look at the crap Coach Umile has taken post-retirement for his role in hiring his successor. Ceglarski, see above comments. Heck, some UMaine fans still hold it against Walshy for spending some of his final days on Earth trying to do right by UMaine with the Whitehead hire, who was FAR more proficient than either Souza or Cedorchuk, but wasn't quite Walshy Part Deux.

York is too smart to risk cheapening his own legacy by failing to hire someone as good as himself.

I knew it was gonna be about Dennehy. CHN has been pushing him i am assuming because of the McMahon/Merrimack connection. Dennehy was promoted in Devils organization from AHL coach to chief scout or something. Didn't NU hire Madigan from a scouting position? And Dennehy is more accomplished as a HC than Cav! Smiley face (but it's true)

"I believe there are three finalists for the job- Leaman, Greg Brown, and Mark Dennehy. The candidates will meet individually with Father Leahy. AD Pat Kraft is leaving to take the Penn State job."

"Breaking- per my sources, Providence head coach Nate Leaman interviewed with BC earlier this week and is a leading candidate for the job. Leaman won a national title at PC in 2015."

Leaman made $800k last year, he'd probably need a $1m+ contract to come here and I wouldn't be surprised if he would ask for a hockey only arena as well

If Leaman thinks he can only win at BC if he gets a "cute little expensive perk" like the Alabama football hottubs then no thanks. For a million a year, I hope the coach is enough of a "wow" factor to get kids, and its not like he has to recruit them to Providence anymore... this is BC, his job is getting easier.

...Didn't NU hire Madigan from a scouting position?...

IIRC, Jimmy was Director of Development for the College of Business Administration when he was hired as HC but I believe he was also scouting on the side. The development gig worked out as he used those talents to help endow the HC job and otherwise put the hockey program on a solid financial footing. And although it's none of my business as an NU fan, I truly believe that Dennehy, with his pro experience and connections, would work out great for youse guys.

They haven't won a National Championship in a decade at this point. With these younger generations' lack of attention spans, I'm not convinced that BC's past success means a whole lot to future recruits nowadays, and at the very least does not carry the same weight that it used to. I hope I'm wrong about that, but I suspect that I'm not.

If you look at next year's class (Ryan Leonard etc), BC is still getting top kids. Leaman has won without that built in recruiting edge. I just have a hard time believing this ends up happening. I will be pleasantly surprised if BC steps up and gives Leaman the $.

BC could cut Leaman in on some New Balance funds to make it work. Leaman was my top pick, but am convinced that he heads to the NHL within 3 years. He also is staring at a monster BC class in 2023 and probably would add some talent in 2024 with his recruiting ability.
