Brian Gionta is having his jersey retired on February 15!

One of my favorite Eagles, never forget the 5 goals he scored in the first period against Maine. Doubt that anyone will see that again. Incredible achievement. Tremendous hockey player. Walsh was beyond fried. Parker said that he would have given two scholarship to get him to BU, Brian was an Eagle through and through.

Shawn Walsh had nothing but praise for Gionta. He raved about Gionta. That’s high praise from a great coach. 9 hat tricks in 4 years is something that will not be equaled let alone broken.

According to Twitter Jerry’s attempted robbery didn’t work out.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2019-20 - No Chit!

I think what you meant to say is his recruiting. Man, you must have hated all of Shawn Walsh's tactics...

Re: Boston College Eagles 2019-20 - No Chit!

He was fried for the five goals, every coach would have killed to have BG on their team, he was a program changer, because in those days the kids stayed for 4 years for the most part.

Brian played a little past the high scoring years of the early 90s, but I have to think that someone else has had that many. I think Jay Pandolfo had three if not 4 during his 38 goal senior year (one game all three were shorthanded!), but not enough during his other years. Someone out west might have - Bob Joyce? Cal Ingraham (Maine)?

Frank Chiarelli of RPI holds the NCAA Record of 3.06 goals per game in 1952 when he scored 55 goals in 18 games. You would think he had more than four hat tricks in the season.

First time looking at HE standings. BC has games in hand on every closest competitor yet still finishes semester with 4 non conference games. For PWR implications it's very important to beat Yale and come away with something in the difficult three game stretch after that.

Seeing UVM grab a point from BU and UConn grabbing 4 points the last two weekends against Lowell/PC...BC sweeping UVM and UConn could prove to be significant.

Not sure when a good time to look at PWR is but BC only HE team in the field at the moment.

And Christian. Just have a joint press conference!

I believe their contracts and York's all tie out to when Leahy is expected to retire.

Agree these next 4 games are huge for PWR. Win 3 of 4 and they should be top 8 in PWR.

Agree BC is looking good in HEA. This team is just starting to come together with the return of Giles. I think he will make a significant impact come March and April.

Go Eagles!

Yale is struggling, 2-6 with a 6-1 loss to Harvard. Big week for the Eagles, need to focus on tonight and then digest the turkey, the most important game so far this year on Friday. Harvard is good and their record is solid.

The boys are up 6-2 in the 3rd. I think they’re back.

Feels good being able to beat up on bad teams again. Three big games to close semester.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2019-20 - No Chit!

Not only does it feel good they started to play like BC teams of old, cohesive, in position, deft passing, and limited odd man rushes. Yes Yale is a one line team and not very good but still it was a solid 3 period game. I love watching Hutsko, his goal was highlight reel quality. He just walked out of the corner got position on the defensemen, actually both of them, and rifled it upstairs. I love the way he is able to get position on the defender with his speed, hold the off defenseman with his right arm and shoulder and control the puck with his left and then make a play. He just missed setting up Matilla with that move in the second period. One handed he slid it across but hit a defenseman's skate, otherwise Matilla was right at the top of the crease. He made that move for the GWG against Providence in the first playoff win. Probably better than anyone on the team he can create time and space whenever he is in the offensive zone. Just needs to stay healthy and he will score a lot of goals. Meanwhile down at Babcock St. there seem to be some problems. 4-0 against Sacred Heart, Cotton's brother scored a goal, 39 in PWR and falling.

Like BC losing to Bentley last year, been there. Hockey East in general is not in a great spot right now in the national picture.

Hockey East teams should schedule fewer AHA opponents IMO. The risk isn't anywhere close to the reward. You can schedule cupcakes in football/basketball, but as we know in hockey the "better team" doesn't always win.

That Hutsko goal last night was impressive for a number of reasons... balance, strength, edgework.... Not many people in D1 can do what he did in the corner before he even got to the front of the net and finished it off by putting it into the back of the net. When healthy he is immensely talented.
