Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

THing is Hokey's reps were bad, but his comments weren't that bad. Whatever....

BC lost to Yale....great. I can't believe there isn't a thread started about it yet....."Does Yale have the best sports program in all of college?"

Haha. I was at the game. Not to start a discussion of basketball at any length on this board, but Yale just played well. They were making shots, especially #1. Unfortunately, the only person who showed up for BC was Reggie Jackson. and boy was #44 for Yale ugly. But anyway...
Any score predictions for tonight? I was clearly kidding about the 25-2. I think Jerry is saving those games for April ;)

Great win tonight Eagles.

John Muse made some SPECTACULAR saves tonight, and made them look easy. Best of the night... the hard, crisp pass across Muses crease to the Black Bear all alone on the back door. The pass landed on the tape and he one-timed it. The poor shooter never stood a chance... Muse stoned him like he had been waiting for that shot for 10 minutes. :)
Probably Muses 5th best save of the night was on the penalty shot by Nyquist, and that was a beauty.

I bow to our goal tender. Great game, Mr. Muse!

Really, Nyquist did a terrible job on that PS. Muse did well in staying with the shooter and not getting deked but Nyquist came in fairly slow, didn't stickhandle much laterally, ran out of room and slammed it into John's pad.

Muse was still awesome and has been great all year. My favorite was a blocker or shoulder save in the last 4 or 5 minutes where it got deflected from deep out so he just practically jumped and knocked the hell out of the puck right towards the blue line.

Vermont loses to Maine 3-2 and then beats BC 5-3 and then BC beats Maine 4-0. Man, do I love the parity of hockey east. Should make for a fun year :-)

And yeah, Muse is ridiculous. I gave him **** as a freshman, but boy has he come along. Unbelievably poised goaltender

Yup. That was a beauty. Was my third favorite.
My second favorite was down the other end (band end), but was right in my sight line. Maine player fires a blast through traffic that I don't think Muse even sees, but it hits his pads and rebounds straight back out. On the rebound, another blast along the ice that he does see, but late, and it's pegged for just inside the far post. Muse throws his leg out and deflects the shot away. Fabulous save... quick as a cat.
He made at least five like this tonight look like routine saves. I bow again. :)

Enjoy the victory for a few hours would ya?

John Muse is the most underrated player in college hockey. All he has done since being at BC is win championships and now he appears to be quicker and stronger. If he continues down the path he is going, BC will be a serious contender and he will be a solid pro. Great to watch his development over the last three plus years.

Muse for Hobey!

Of course Muse but in addition I thought Paul Carey did a great job out there last night. Relentless backchecking. Mullane's goal was a laser with eyes. Great shot. And congratulations to Tommy Atkinson. Nice to see him get his first goal. It came about a minute after I said to my wife. "I'd love to ee him get one tonight."

Re: Boston College 2010-2011 In-Season Thread: Long Live The "Eagle" Empire!

mullane's shot was a beauty if you were sitting down in section e? at the other end. for a split second I saw the hole, thought to myself "boy i wish he'd rifle one," and then he did and it went in exactly the same spot

carey's burst of speed to create a partial breakaway in the 2nd period was pretty remarkable. he caught the left defenseman off guard and went off to the races. didn't result in a goal but still was a quality chance.

i like what they're doing though. not as many shots from the perimeter. started driving to the net harder and playing a little bit more physical.

there were still some *** moments in our defensive zone where we couldn't manage to get the puck out for an extended period of time. gotta keep that to a minimum.

Looks like cross is out until January. This guy has Gord kluzak written all over him. I wouldn't be shocked if he comes back for a few games and gets injured again or if he doesn't come back at all, really a shame.... Maine will be without o'neil and dimen, so that's gonna hurt them too.

after expousing the virtues of our soccer program here a few times, i would be remiss not to mention the women's soccer team and their 4-0 win vs West Virginia last night. surprisingly, at least for conte, we were kept up to date during the hockey game and they move on the the Elite Eight which we host for the first time, imagine? great job girls! i hope i didn't put the kiss of death on them because every time i mention them they lose the next game it seems

Is Dimmen out for sure for Sunday? What did he injure? His shoulder? Collarbone?

His ankle was re-injured. I believe Larry Mahoney's article had a quote from Whitehead that he'd be out on Sunday and I think they'll have to evaluate for after that. Can't imagine that'd change.

haha. care to share what was your fourth favorite? might it be the glove save through traffic on the 5 on 3? i believe that was down at 'your end' based on your descriptions.

Muse was awesome (obviously an understatement). Kreider is perhaps one of the best two-way players I have seen in a long time...extremely strong on his feet. Dumoulin has become -- yet another -- stud BC defenseman.

So what's the deal with Macleod, has he looked pretty good or are we just getting by with him out there? I think he's got talent, but even last year he was brought along very slowly in his first year in the BCHL. Hopefully we can stay injury free until at least K Hayes gets back...
