Probably comes down to what's most important to them. Personally, I think if they're able to keep football independence, they'd sacrifice the private preference for travel and the schools that they'd be playing. But I have nothing to back that claim other than a gut instinct.

It's not just travel. That's a small drop in the bucket when it comes to money. It will come down to TV contracts and grants.

Eventually the desire to stay independent will be overtaken by the need to keep up in the money race. THe boost to academics would be nice to boot.

Well, you are half wrong the Gophers came in second place in the National Championship game the first year of the Big Ten.

Half wrong on the whole point on the fun fact? :confused:

The CCHA had a similar funk about the tournament title. The final four CCHA Tournament winners failed to win a game in the NCAA Tournament. The final one to win a game in the tournament was Michigan in 2010.

Minnesota didn't win the B1G conference tournament that year though. Michigan was the first to win the tournament and proceed to win at least a NCAA tournament game. Wisconsin lost to UND in 2014 regional after winning tournament. Minnesota lost to UMD in 2015 after winning tournament.
