The Big Ten Ice Hockey tournament currently rotates between Detroit and Minnesota. Saturday’s championship game drew 6,180 just fans to the 18,568-seat Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, even though the Gophers were on the ice.
Traviolia said the tournament “has not met our expectations and our fans’ expectations. You won’t see the status quo going forward.”
So that likely means all or early-round games played on campuses beginning in 2018.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. B1G And ND both desperate. ND can't win in Hockey East and tv isn't helping the league so they dazzle the B1G with their NBC games on an online stream with commercials of the ND robot football team (really just wow) and they hope an easier conference will work out for them.
Good get on Notre Dame and I'll take ASU too.
Nice little recruiting cherry to tell a kid they get a weekend in Arizona each season. Alumni and fans might like it too.
I don't really like the idea of ASU.
I think the big negotiation will be around CIC membership. Notre Dame just doesn't have the research powerhouse that all other schools have.
I don't think Notre Dame will be granted AAU membership to get them into the Big Ten. They would likely be the only exception though since it's been the conference's target for decades.
Bottom line, AAU membership is not the hurdle for Notre Dame becoming a full member. Notre Dame itself is.
Delany's exact words in 2010...
"It's very important," Delany said. "AAU membership is an important part of who we are. It was an important part of who we are [when the Big Ten added] Penn State, and it's an important aspect of what makes an institution a research institution, an undergraduate school, a school that serves the public at a high level."
Asked if AAU membership was mandatory for expansion candidates, Delany said, "We're not there. I'm not going to qualify or disqualify, but it's a very important factor."
My point was IF they do get an invite from the AAU (which is more than a remote possibility) that would add significant weight to ND "seeking" to join a conference of like-minded academic research institutions.
I don't really like the idea of ASU.
Even though I'm a Merrimack fan, THAT was very well played!Ooo! Merrimack fans are going to be super excited!
Huh? They went 15-5-2, finishing 3rd, just 3 points behind the two leaders, and comfortably ahead of nine other teams.Good take. ND couldn't cut it in HE so off to supposed greener pastures.
Huh? They went 15-5-2, finishing 3rd, just 3 points behind the two leaders, and comfortably ahead of nine other teams.
3 points is listed as "just" 3 points, yet 4 points is "comfortably ahead?"
Nevermind they got dispatched in the first round of the playoffs at home.
Tater, I was responding to riverchief1, who claimed that Notre Dame "couldn't cut it in HE" which of course is absurd. But to be more accurate, with no exaggeration, I'll re-phrase, leaving out the word "comfortably":3 points is listed as "just" 3 points, yet 4 points is "comfortably ahead?"
Nevermind they got dispatched in the first round of the playoffs at home.
