Not going to be possible. We've been told no Big Ten team will ever be bad enough to have even a .500 record, let alone a sub .500 record. Their dominance in non-conference games will make this issue a moot point.
I stand corrected.

I have a prestigious MIAC education. My parents told me the only public education Iam getting is from Edina high screw. Champ![]()
So then why aren't the ECAC schools getting pro talent?
Because at ECAC schools you actually have to study and stuff. At B1G schools, like Minnesota, people just take the tests and write the papers for you.
I'm curious how often (if ever) a team has run their non-conference schedule only to fall below .500 in conference play. Those two stats just don't seem to go together very well.
DU was very close in 2003-2004 and won a national championship in the process.
WCHA Record: 13-10-5 [Tied for 4th place in WCHA]
WCHA Playoffs: 0-2 [Eliminated by CC in 1st Round]
Regular Season: 10-0-0 against nonconference opponents
Entered NCAA Tournament as #7 seed.
NCAA Tournament: Defeated #9 Miami, #1 North Dakota, #5 Minnesota-Duluth & #2 Maine
True, but with around 16 non-conference games, B1G teams can really roll up Pairwise comparisons if they do well outside the conference.Interesting...although a 13-10-5 record in an extremely strong WCHA that year isn't all that bad (and closer to .600 than .500).

The year DU went 10-0-0 the nonconference opponents were:This is certainly true, but my point was the likelihood of a team going 14-0-0 (or 16-0-0) in non-conference, only to lay an egg in conference play is highly unlikely. My guess is if Team X is very good out of conference, they will likely be very good in conference.

The year DU went 10-0-0 the nonconference opponents were:
Ohio State
St Lawrence [2]
Northeastern [2]
Findley
Air Force
Niagara
UNO
Wayne State
Two programs no longer exists. Air Force & UNO were far worse than today. Schedule 16 cupcakes and take your chances you don't slip up.
The thing though, is that DU was still a very good team that year...they did happen to win a national championship after all. Moreover, they were a top 4 team in a very difficult conference. It's not like they were 4-24-0 in conference play and only got in based on their non-conference record. You're proving my point...if you run the table in non-conference play, you're usually pretty good in conference play.
Also, it does not appear that the B1G is going the route of cupcakes.
Yeah, the out of conference schedule looks to be difficult which is why many recruits ultimately will decide on a Big Ten school. ;p
Probably will be the same recruits that would have normally attended a B1G School regardless.
Don't get me started!Even to this day I still can't believe DU won the national title.
