Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

Went to the Bentley v HC game on Friday night. Don't know how many of you got out for the game but it wasn't something you wanted to see as a Bentley fan. Goal number 3 was given to HC by Marginsky forgetting how to skate backwards, falling, and giving HC a breakway for the goal. After a beautiful top shelfer by Gladiuk to tie the game back at 3-3, HC went on the powerplay where Kommer decided to play the puck at the face off circle, went to clear it, whiffed, and then fell. Giving HC an empty net to shoot at for a 4-3 lead. I don't know where our heads have been at the last few weeks but I think we are in need of a home game. The road hasn't been too kind.

Oh and we hit the post with Komm pulled and 40 seconds left.

Also random thought, if Komm starts against AIC im going to explode. The whole point of getting a solid back up like Antoni was so Komm didnt have to play 38 games again. Lets try not to wear out one of the best goalies in the league.

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

Thanks for the recap, FalconsNest. I agree entirely about overplaying Komm. I was on my way to the game, but got stuck in traffic on Route 20, so the game was nearly half over by the time I reached 495. So, I simply headed north to NH without a stop in Worcester, which was my original after-game plan. We have six huge home games the remainder of the semester, but with two each against Mercyhurst and Air Force, it ain't going to be easy at the JAR either.

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

Unfortunately the scheduling Gods are not on our side this year. Nov 17 vs Uconn is senior trip night to the casino. Most students wont be back for the Mercyhurst series due to thanksgiving break. Air Force is over break, as well as the Canisus series. Jan 26th will be rocking against Holy Cross though. THe game we have circled is SHU on Feb 22nd. We hate them..

Some nuggets to chew on. AHA realignment and expansion is coming. Commissioner spoke to it and confirmed there are 4 teams in talks and informal talks with others. I have an idea of who might be on the list, but not fully sure as of yet. Either way, I love speculating. So.. yeah. here you go.

From what I understand and have read this year, the coaching staff is going to ride Komm as long as they humanly can. They use terms like "need to put best foot forward on every given night." that to me indicates that they're going with the best statistical matchup, and Komm is going to increase workload after last season. The schedule is also conducive to a long run for him; after the Air Force series, the Falcons have 2 weeks off.

I don't think AIC will be a walkthrough by any means. The Yellow Jackets are a vastly improved team who can win games when putting together 60 minutes. Meisner has become a force in net, and his only undoing is the defense in front of him (sound familiar, Falcon fans?). Bentley can outgun them, but they need to win big and not get into a track meet with them. This needs to be a statement weekend with 4 points behind two resounding victories.

As much as I hate to say it, UConn is reeling right now. Slow start, can't overcome Schneider leaving and now the coach is out (anyone have any ideas why?). I hate to be like this but you can't lose to a team like that.

If I had to guess, Navy will also be on that list, as will Alabama-Huntsville. I'm going to say some other teams up for consideration are any of the NE-10 teams like Assumption or St. Anselm, Franklin Pierce or SNHU. I'm also going to throw another team like Lehigh on te list from the Patriot League. Everyone says Iowa, but if they elevate hockey, they'd be forced to join Big Ten.

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

Personal preference of all the names mentioned: Navy

Think about how cool it would be to have all three (major) service academies (sorry USCGA) in the same conference. The media coverage of Army vs. Navy alone (guarantee CBS Sports Network covers the games) would benefit the conference. Add to that the increase of academic prowess of another service academy, and its a win all around. After that happened, we could all then begin to speculate about the formation of The Patriot League Hockey Conference. :-D

Don't get me wrong, I love St. A's. But let's face it; which looks sexier on your schedule?

UConn beat Merrimack this past weekend, so I do not think that either game for Bentley this coming weekend is a gimme.

Good Predictions. Chris Lerch confirmed the schools are Rhode Island, St. Anselm, Navy, and Alabama-Huntsville in his post today: http://www.uscho.com/2012/11/15/atl...ools-interested-in-joining-commissioner-says/

Thanks! If I had to guess, St. A will make the jump, but I don't love the decision on a personal note. I think if the AHA holds off another few years, there will be another defection and I like a 10 team league much more than a 12. I know why they're going to 12, and I support that decision; it's better for the league on the whole to have 12 teams in case they take another defection. But I like smaller over larger. The 10-team AHA was great for rivalries and conference matchups.

At least for us, it's a short bus ride to Goffstown, and the rink is a beaut.

Uconn coming off very big win vs Merrimack will have momentum.
Need to tighten up back end, still trying to find d combos to make 3 able pairings. At this point they need to play the 2 solid pairs since mixing for balance hasn't worked well.

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

H - thanks for posting. Got a lot going down on the site today. Expansion, great nomination for Dan Koudys, and the game prep for tomorrow. Going to try and make it work on the broadcast tomorrow, but I know AIC's facilities are, well, "limited." Most likely plugging into AIC's wireless card for the America One feed, and hopefully I'll have some audio going as well. Stay tuned tomorrow, it could be last minute switches!

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

From what I understand, Komm may get a rest tomorrow. He's listed as the expected starter, but there's a solid chance he doesn't play tomorrow. Could see our first action of the year for either Antoni or Dougherty. My guess is Antoni will play at some point.

Re: Bentley Hockey 2012-2013: The New Era of JAR Pride Begins

Reminder if you're not heading to Springfield that I'll be out there calling the game from the Olympia Ice Center. Will also be on the call joined by Louis Gattozzi in the booth for color commentary tomorrow against UConn. Louis has been great in lending analysis during intermissions and is a member of the Bentley Club team.

Absolutely CRUSHED AIC last night. First period was even but Bentley turned it up in second and third. Seven different scorers. Offense can really cook. They can out score pretty much every team if they have to.

Defense was a bit of a concern. They took a swath off in the second that led to an AIC goal and in the first the PK unit left something to be desired. But overall they are getting better. reardon and Marginsky skated together as a pairing - 6'2" and 6'6". Not sure last time Bentley had that type of size.

Antoni got the start. He is clearly not Komm and he plays a little bit more on the edge. Not afraid to come out of net and get aggressive. Definitely not a traditional goalie. He can come out to the face off circles to play iced pucks and has skating ability of a defenseman. Not a bad showing. He definitely is going to give fans anxiety but I was impressed at a few moments.

UConn tonight. Coach Marshall has been on medical leave buy team is starting to gel. Hopefully we can start punting them out of the conference

Bentley was lucky to get the win against the Huskies tonight, I think. Huskies outplayed the Falcons for most of the first two periods. Then, Marginsky and Reardon got their signals crossed and coughed up the puck allowing Ambrosie to skate in alone to beat Komm upper left near the beginning of the third. But, Bentley continued to capitalize on their PP (second best in Div 1 at near 30%), with Bloomquist equalizing the score with a nice wrister a couple minutes later. The remainder of the third was excellent two-way hockey with many scoring chances by both sides before Gensler got the go-ahead goal on some nice passing by Weinstein and Bloomquist. With Gensler ENG as the game wound down, he got his two points to remain at the top of Div 1 in scoring and Bloomquist finished with three points on the night. Komm played great again tonight.

I thought that UConn looked really good tonight, yet their record continues to be in the doldrums. Mercyhurst got humbled in two losses to RPI this weekend, so will be out for retribution next weekend at the JAR, which will likely be a lot quieter than the past few home games, as most students will be away for Thanksgiving Break.

I think the game was typified by defense. I was actually very happy with the way the team played and extremely happy with the best defensive effort of the season. They didn't score the same amount of goals as we're accustomed to, but at the same time, remember that they had to come back from AIC while UConn had a full week off. Bentley had bus lag for the first period and a half, and then they had to play catch up. I'm sure Soderquist said at the end fo the second, "Let's just worry about winning this one period and forget the first two."

I was pretty happy with it. Four point weekend yields Happy Humanoid.
