Bentley Falcons 2013-2014: No offseason. No excuses.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2013-2014: No offseason. No excuses.

I'll be hosting a playoff kickoff show in the Student Center tomorrow night at 7 PM. Further details released tomorrow. Bentley's athletic site RT'd what I had to say about it and I'll have a more detailed post tomorrow.

Great show Dan! That radio montage of Dan Rubin calls to kick it off was excellent. Looking forward to the rest of your coverage leading up to the big series next weekend!

Also, Dan wrote a very fine USCHO.com lead article on the AHA opening round this week. Thanks for adopting Bentley, Dan. :)

It has been absolutely my pleasure. Coming out of a D3 school that had a great hockey team when I was there (and basketball), I'm happy to have found a landing spot at the ground floor. Like I've said before, the Bentley Falcons were a stock that I was lucky enough to buy into low (that they let me buy into), and that stock is on the way up. One thing I can never take for granted is the way the school took me in. I truly appreciate it.

The causehead in me looked for something that I could help build. Instead, the hockey fire burning at Bentley drives me to keep doing what I'm doing. Now we just have to get it to rage into an inferno; there's a lot of hockey and work left to do!

Re: Bentley Falcons 2013-2014: No offseason. No excuses.

Picks are posted. If we are right, next week would bring the following:

Dan:
RMU at Air Force
Niagara at UConn
RIT at Bentley
Sacred Heart at Mercyhurst

Chris:
Holy Cross at Mercyhurst
RMU at Air Force
Niagara at UConn
Canisius at Bentley

RMU winning would send them to UConn, which was my mistake - UConn is the 4 and Air Force is the 3. This would flip the two of them.

If teams finish off the series tonight, it'll be Canisius coming ot Bentley next week with #9 RIT heading to Mercyhurst. I have a feeling we're going to see some 3 game series. There were also 2 double-OT games, with Niagara wiping out AIC, 1-0, and RIT up-ending HC.

Yup, Army and the Cross pushing to third game.

So, if Army and HC win tomorrow, that sets up a Bentley/HC matchup?

I think so. And, if Army loses, Mercyhurst would host HC or RIT, and Bentley would host Canisius, as Dan predicted.

Here's what I have for possible matchups next week.

RMU Loss
MH v Army
BEN v HC\RIT
UCON v CAN
AFA v NIAG

With a RMU Win
MH v HC\RIT
BEN v CAN
UCON v NIA
AFA v RMU

A little confused by the AFA \ UCON rankings as their tied in points (must be a tie breaker scenario) so this is giving UCON the edge in the standings over AFA.

I think that Canisius is the most dangerous lower seed team in the AHA quarters this year. Last year they gave Quinnipiac, eventual NC runner up, a real scare in the first game of the NCAA East regionals, as they led the Bobcats 3-1 midway through the third, only to give up three unanswered goals over six minutes to end their run. Bentley cannot let Canisius get a lead in any game this coming weekend.

Canisius plays very well in terms of clogging the defensive end. This is the part that worries me. If Bentley is going to win this weekend, they'll need to match them defensively. If Bentley's D can beat the Canisius O, then eventually the Canisius D will crack under the Bentley O. I know that this is A LOT easier said than done. Bentley has to be prepared to win some tight, close games. If they blow out the Griffs, then it's an added bonus. But they'll need to win some 2-1, 1-0 games this weekend I think.

This team is battle tested, and that's what scares me the most. BUT, it's what makes playoff hockey great.

Coach Soderquist talking about this week. Great takes getting ready.

Good interview, Dan.

I had not realized that the Falcons did not split any AHA series this year; they only lost series to Mercyhurst, Niagara, and Sacred Heart, of course.

Also, the Falcons did not lose any of their six OT games this season, winning two.

I think that special teams will decide the games this weekend. Falcons need to stay out of the penalty box, and resist getting even when things get physical. A couple PPGs could make the difference.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2013-2014: No offseason. No excuses.

Good Luck to the Bentley Falcons this weekend.

As an RIT fan and a season ticket holder at Army, the Falcons have certainly taken care of business (5-0) in regards to the two teams I follow most closely in the AHA. My seats are behind the visitors bench at Tate so I even sat with some Bentley fans when they last visited Tate on Valentines Day. Good people.

You have a strong team, it would be nice to see your senior class make it to the BCA.

Thanks, especially from an RIT fan, as your team ended our season two years ago, and my alma mater's season (UNH) at the Albany regional three years ago. Best wishes with your new rink next season. Hope that I will have reason for travel to Rochester next weekend.
