Bentley Falcons 2013-2014: No offseason. No excuses.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2013-2014: No offseason. No excuses.

I was not there, so will take your word for that, Dan. But, the box score certainly does not indicate that Bentley outplayed Maine. However, those are three significant losses to injuries, despite how much depth the team has this season. Based on the box score, appears that both teams skated 5-3 for almost 90 seconds, so that is a wash. But, need to get injured those guys back as soon as possible. Not sure what to make of Quinnipiac beating Lowell this past weekend, as Sacred Heart beat Lowell the weekend before.

Ok
so putting all the post game notes from those that are knowledgable and were there including the coach, Bentley played one of their best defensive games at Maine in quite a while(win at Omaha needs to be discounted since they let their early 3 goal lead disappear to one goal ) and at Maine 3 of the best defensive players were in the stands. Depth is questionable....

JFYP, as we have only played the Black Bears twice, right? I listened to that one on the Black Bears radio broadcast, which was about as despondent as anything I had heard in a long time, as we beat them 3-1, I think.

But, I liked Dan's Atlantic Hockey blog summary (nice work, Dan) better than his own blog post about the Falcons game in Orono this past weekend.

Turns out I am too busy to make the trip to Quinnipiac tonight, too, so safe travels to those of you heading down to Connecticut. Go Falcons!

Muchas gracias. I felt the 2nd post was a little redundant and too wordy, but I also felt the urge to expound further than I would with the AHA blog.

A must read about the RIT equipment manager. Would love to get him a strong ovation from the Falcons Nest. Well deserved for this young man.

Tough loss to take yesterday seeing as Bentley once again played great in the 3rd period but couldn't put it together for a full 60 minutes. This team is so close to getting over the hump against good opponents, but at least they're not getting murdered on the scoreboard by OOC teams. I'm excited to see what happens against a weaker Harvard team that truly struggled last season.

Re: Bentley Falcons 2013-2014: No offseason. No excuses.

...and beat us 5-0. :-(

Makes you wonder if his true intent is to be a comedian??

He says,
@Maine, "best defensive game, perfect on PK ...top 2 Dmen and best defensive forward in the stands"
@Qpac , " almost over the hump....out shot by 40"
@Harvard, "Excited to see.....lost 5-0 last year vs a struggling Harvard"

Comic relief for those of us who have been watching this for too long. Ugh

Okay I'm confused.

That first point - that was the best defensive game that they played, and they were perfect on the PK with those guys in the stands. So it means that to this point, their ceiling got slightly higher. I'm confused as to how that's incorrect or where I'm off on that

@Qpac - they played well on offense in making the most of their chances, but there weren't enough chances. If the defense played better they would have been able to probably win the game. My point here is that they're inconsistent in a sense that they're always missing that one piece to get over the hump and win these games. Full 60 minutes. Again, not really sure what your point is.

@Harvard - Yeah, Harvard beat Bentley 5-0, but the season unraveled soon after that. Harvard started the season as the #17 team in the nation, and to start the season, they were a very good hockey team. As the season progressed, they regressed. The same happened with Bentley last year. As the season began, Bentley was a good team. As the season progressed, they got worse. Harvard is starting the season as a bad team looking to improve on last year's performance despite losing substantial parts. So, again, I'm not sure what you're getting at besides just trying to incite me with ridicululing statements about how I'm a comedian or don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm all for great conversation and debate, and I appreciate your statements about the games so far so I could take the moment to explain my positions. I would prefer to keep them constructive though about the team in a debate and less pointed at the person who is making them.

And if your goalie didn't stand on his head then the score is more like 8-9 to 3 instead of 4-3.

Which I happily agree on. If you take 20 shots off QU and add 20 shots to Bentley, the game is probably a tie game at this point given that Bentley was able to capitalize on their opportunities and QU's defensive lapses/fluke goals/general weirdness. That's solely on the defense. The defense putting Komm in that position is something that needs to be improved upon.

"soley on the defense..." Not a minute of sustained offense, guess you never heard the saying the best defense is a good offense. You do of course mean team defense, right?

The comedy continues....the stage is all yours..

Why is that whenever a goalie has a good game, it's somehow considered a disqualifier for the rest of the team? Last time I checked, the goalie is just as integral as everyone else on the ice. You never hear anyone say, "If it weren't for that winger's hat trick, it would have been a completely different game."

Because you can't expect a goalie on a team that got outshot by that margin to consistently play as well as Komm did. Capitalizing on opportunities is important but in the long run, you don't want to get outshot 50-13 every game. I'm waiting to see a more well-rounded (and consistent) effort before saying this team is almost over the hump. Good teams will play the same way against Sacred Heart as they do agains UNO as they do against Qpac.

So if a squad has a really good goalie, does that somehow not count as much as a really good forward?

Fliers all over campus the past couple of days promoting a Bentley watch cap, a round trip bus ride, and game ticket for game at Harvard on Saturday night, all for $15.
