IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!!!

Both teams were swept on the road last weekend. Bemidji against Tech and NMU against Minnesota Duluth. With just 4 weekends remaining, all of which are conference series, points are precious.

Bemidji sits 4 points behind NMU with 16 points (NMU with 20). If Bemidji were to sweep this weekend, they would tie NMU at 20 points each and, having a Win and a Tie against NMU earlier in the year, would win the tie breaker and move them into 4th place. If NMU wins, they are going to be a bit more comfortable in that last home ice spot.

This is a huge weekend for both teams. Bemidji took 3 out of 4 points earlier in the season. This very well may determine who ends up in the 4th spot.

My predictions. 2-2 Tie on Friday, NMU wins 3-1 on Saturday.

With Dahlstrom and Shine still out and Mitch Jones doubtful for this weekend, I'm just hoping for a split.

I was away this weekend, but noticed that Reed Seckel received another 5 minute major penalty and game misconduct on Saturday night for spearing. Does he have to sit out any games? Not sure what is up with the kid, but in his past four games he has been ejected twice, and had two minor penalties and a misconduct in another. With home ice on the line, he really needs to get focused on helping the team and staying out of the penalty box.

BSU will be missing Markus Gerbrandt and probably Leo Fitzgerald. Gerbrandt I have heard is out until at least the playoffs, and Leo Fitzgerald didn't play last weekend at Tech and has been battling to get healthy.

Big weekend for sure. BSU has Anchorage at home, at Ferris and then at home with Mankato to end the year after this series. BSU really needs these four points.

If last weekend was big, this weekend is even BIGGER for the Beavers. They need points this weekend if they want a better shot at home ice. Ideally four to tie Northern, three would move the Beavers to within two points, a split would leave them still four points back.

BSU has at Northern, Anchorage, at Ferris and Mankato left on the schedule.

Northern has Bemidji, at Bowling Green, Lake State and home and home with Michigan Tech left.

Ferris State has Bowling Green, at Huntsville, with BSU, at Lake State left.

There will be a lot of people in town with the sled dog races. Hopefully it will bring an extra draw to the rink.

Friday night is always a slow night for attendance because the start of the UP 200 race is the same time as puck drop, and the Midnight Run starts around when the second period is going on.

Five years in school, and I only got to see two starts to the sled dog race.
2001 (bye week for NMU)
2002 (NMU vs Miami)
2003 (NMU vs LSSU)
2004 (NMU vs LSSU)
2005 (NMU played MTU Thurs/Sat)

I would think the dip in attendance on Friday night in 2003 and 2004 was worth it when LSSU's bus was on M28 East home during the race making them stop at every trail crossing. :D

In addition to the sled dog race the Negaunee vs Ishpeming basketball game is tonight. Plus we have a blizzard warning from late tonight to 10 p.m. Saturday. The attendance for the whole weekend could take a hit.

The 02 game vs. Miami was crazy. We scored like 6 goals in two minutes, or something ridiculous like that. Almost no one saw it as they were all watching the doggies.

Where did BSU get stranded in the UP? Did they get to practice during that time?

From their Twitter, it looks like they got stopped in Ironwood Wednesday night and practiced Thursday morning before taking off.

Unless they got stuck in Sidnaw after that. :D

Talked to Coach Serratorre. They stayed in Ironwood Wednesday night and did skate there Thursday morning.
