While crossing several musty smelling, thick and wet beaver meadows today, shooting woodcock, I thought about this thread and wether it would be here when I returned. Disappointing number of posts.....

5-2 win, not bad tonight.

They need to clean up the penalties and some dumb mistakes breaking out of the zone, but the offense looked solid. We seem to have a few lines that can score again, which is huge.

Overall I was disappointed in the number of point-blank chances the Gophers gave up, many of which came on ill-advised or poorly executed passes breaking out of their end, as you note. It's a darn good thing Wilcox was there to save their butts; if not, that game may have gone down to the wire in a shootout. Hopefully Wilcox won't have to be the best player on the ice tomorrow night, because of improved play in our D-zone.

Couple of thoughts:

Rau on the first line will automatically make it a significant factor in every game, but the second line of Kloos, Cammarata and Warning will be particularly tough to stop.

Folks have talked about who they figured would take it up a level. The logical players would be Reilly, Kloos, Rau, etc. But these are guys who are already good. Although some were disappointed in him last year, my dark horse for 'stepping up' to the next level this year has been Cammarata. Looks like after last night, he might just do that.

Been anxious to see what Bristedt would do. They put him on line 1 as I thought they might. He showed a couple of jaw dropping stick handling moves...but in just his second game, was seen to be pressing a bit at times.

The guys are on track.

Bemidji was using a really aggressive forecheck and the Gophers did struggle with their decision making at times. Need to make decisions with the puck sooner. It seems like they tend to struggle a bit with this early most seasons, but tend to iron that out as they get more games under the belts.

I was impressed with BSU last night. That could have easily been a 5-4 type game if Wilcox hadn't shined like he did. MN had the better play for the most part, but they were also pressured into turning the puck over in some bad spots, and Bemidji created some great chances out of it.

Best line from the TV crew last night was when they were describing Rau's goal and what he did to a Beaver:
"Get 'em to go down and then slide it in." :D

Anything worth quoting? When I try to look at Star Trib now, it says I reached my limit of free articles and need to pay.

They really do that now? Didn't know. I've subscribed to the paper edition for a long time...I guess that gives you unlimited access to the web version.

Just started. Been reading articles for years but apparently policy switched.

Could have been a closer game without Wilcox, and Beavers did keep playing even when down. But a couple of those chances they got were also caused by poor decisions/execution on the Defense end of things for the Gophs. They'll have to work on those.

Couple comments from way too early to judge, but this is the internet so why not?;

So Bridstedt is not going to come in and make a Eichel-esque entrance to the league (Or Vanek-like). As someone said above, he had a few flashes of stick-handling and very good intensity. Will be fun to see how he develops. Looks like he has some skills and right attitude to make a noticeable impact.

Good to see Rau looking like he may have taken that next step and be a major force.

Mike Reilly seems to have a few times a game where he just mis-connects on a pass or another move. Not bad. Just not as dominant and in control of the game as I expected this year. Plenty of time for that to change.

Fasching, while getting points, thus far hasn't had one of those shifts where he takes over with his size and skill.

Hope to see Bisch again tonight. Outlet passes set up a couple of the goals and played well defensively.

Overall, while there is room to improve over the season, they are looking good as was expected. Gonna be a tough year to get through the weeks and to the next weekend...

Re: Bemidji at Minnesota - This is an Innuendo-free Zone!

Having attended each of the other games...I would say Boyd's play was great yesterday, but it was Reilly and Fasching who were outstanding in the icebreaker. Rau has looked very good in all the games.

FSN alt tonight? Doesn't show up on my program guide.

Good game tonight, BSU. TWOCOX saved our bacon on a couple stretches. We really had to earn tonight's win. We also made a bunch of mistakes which we cannot do against better teams (no insult intended towards BSU).

You must not have been reading the site much per month because that policy has been in place for a while. Well over a year. I just get around it by opening a private browser in Firefox.

I heard that if you stop loading the page while the page is loading everything, you bypass the block and can read it, although I've never tried that.
