Beanpot LXXII: The Beat Goes On

Split-N

All Hail
Less than a month to go so time for the chatter to begin. BU vs H in the Feb 3 early game; BC and NU in the nightcap. BC (12-3-1) is having a season for the ages; BU (9-7-1) at least is +.500; H and NU not so much. Which means that one of those two will probably win.

Cam Lund has yet to cash in his annual Hat Trick vs Boston College this season, it will either happen here or somehow in Hockey East playoffs. I think the Eagles might prefer here... (not that a Cam Lund hat trick guarantees Northeastern actually wins a game, with how this year has gone)

not a season for the ages at all for BC. 12-3-1, big deal. it's January 10th.

Agree, that's a bit much with the hyperbole. Let's just say they're off to a strong start. It's been awhile since they've lifted the Beanpot though, so it would be nice to check that off the to-do list.

Today's the day. PWR: BC 1, BU 9, NU 24, Harvard 43. Poll: BC 1 and BU 8. 33 teams received votes but none for NU or Harvard. As we know anyone can win this but on paper it is BC's to lose.

BC with the longest draught (2016) Probably their year since they can't win the Natty if they don't win the Pot.

The incidences of the Flu are very high at this time. Not sure how that may affect player availability but would not be surprised to see an outbreak among fans following the games. Hospitals are inundated with Flu patients.

After seeing the commercials during the Super Bowl, I think players on the winning team, or at the very least the MVP, should get the Dunk Kings warm up suits.

OK fine. Trying to find ways to distract myself from the impending doom surrounding tonight’s game.

You are talking to hockey fans. You think flu season will get in a hockey fans way?

[gets home, turns on the Beanpot]

Oh look 4-2 Harvard lead. Good for them! They have more goals than fans in the building!

How was that an embellishment on BU. Should not have taken both to the box. BC got lucky there to stay on the power play.

Loving that BC is now the Northeastern of the beanpot. 9 years..haha! Big time drought. BU goalie reboot is a game changer. As a alum of both NU and BU, I just hate BC so much!

At the risk of jinxing it with 1:22 to go...I'm gonna say that when they survived that first period only down 0-1, they had a chance to compete. I didn't expect this though.

Random question for anyone who might know - how is the home decided in the championship game? Is it a coin toss like for the opening round?

Still amazed BU won, especially after that dismal first period. I was happy to see both Lane Hutson and Macklin Celebrini were there and read off the lineups in the locker room. And to see them both interact with the student section - well it warmed my cold heart. :) Lane I could see being there because his brothers were playing and the rest of the family was there. Plus Montreal isn't that far away. But Macklin came all the way from the west coast. That was a pleasant surprise.

Also, I will never understand how the TD Garden does the video intros of each player. Pretty much every campus rink does it uniform number. They just do a random haphazard list. It's odd. They also do it at the Hockey East tournament.

It wasn't featured on the broadcast but Will Smith also attended- it was mentioned on a national broadcast end of january that they were planning to go together. Macklin also still has a brother on the team (even if he's currently injured) and Smith is from the area. General rule in San Jose is if you see one of Macklin Celebrini or Will Smith, you are likely to find the other nearby.
