Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

The same team or teams always winning it makes it far less interesting.

I'll tell you, I LIKE women's bb, but once my team is out, I don't watch another game, much less look up who won. I don't care. It's always UConn, basically. BORING.

The men's game, I pay attention the year's my team doesn't even make the tourney, because it's interesting, no one knows who is going to win.

Same with the Beanpot, I never used to care, it was uninteresting. But lately its become interesting again. I even directed a bunch of cbb fans to come check it out tonight.

Which all points to it being good for the Beanpot tournament for NU to win....and I agree with that... but still don’t follow the logic how it is good for Hockey East. You do realize the Beanpot is not a hockey east event and only 3 of the 4 teams are hockey east schools?

I gather what he means is that they are the best team in the league this year and probably the only one that can make any noise in the NCAAs. That's my interpretation. "Good for the league" in the sense that they proved they could step up because if they lost this game you could make a realistic case that the league might very well be shut out this year.

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

I can tell you are not a HE fan. :) NU had by far the most fans at the Garden. They don't need a victory to get fired up. Good for the Beanpot yes, but I see no connection to them winning being "good for Hockey East" except maybe being a small boost to their at-large chances and having multiple teams in the NCAAs in this horrible league season.

Well, had Harvard won, the HE would have looked even worse than they already look. And BU and BC are both basically, on the outside looking in, as far as NCAA tourney is concerned. NE was on the bubble going into tonight's game, their winning is the best thing that could have happened for the HE, imho.

They will probably win the tournament and get the autobid anyway.

But NU was playing BU for the title, not Harvard. And for the rest of it, I agree and it is basically what I said in response to your other post.

Yes, I do realize that. And hence why it is SO important for a HE team to win the event. lol How embarrassing if the 1 non HE team ends up winning it? :)

Just forget it..don't argue with him... jeez. :)

Well, granted, it was an all HE final, but a lot of us westerners think HE = BC/BU. And Maine made it a threesome for awhile there.

So NE winning makes HE look less like a 2 school conference. Kind of like when Prov won their title a couple of years ago.

Some fans had to look up what conference Providence played it. lol

ok, j/k about that last part, but not totally. :)

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

The BC limelites come out because their rivals lost. Sad.

What? I hope you don't think I'm a BU fan in disguise? lol No way, 111% A Gopher/B1G/Western college hockey fan.

But I got a lot of respect for schools like BC and BU and Maine, even though I cheer against them.

Was very happy to see NE win tonight.

Not going to cheer for HE come NCAA tourney time, but until then, better NE than BU/BC.

And Harvard folk think too highly of themselves without winning hockey games, I hope they lose every game they play, lol.

As Gerry Williams used to say (and those of you in Boston know who I'm talking about), "They're out there tonight!!!!" :)

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

Congrats, Husky fans! You have been waiting a long time, and the team was determined to end the streak. I actually thought BU played well, they just couldn't keep the NU PP from scoring. That top line is fierce and should help you make some noise come March/April.

Re: Beanpot LXVI: The Tong Wars Resume

Bc fan trying to control as always. Suck exhaust valve.

I know you are not accusing me of being a BC fan? lol OMG. Too funny.

Westerners think I'm JDubbs, and they are wrong, too. SCSU fans will ALL tell you I'm no BC fan.

I mean, what gives, you never had a western college hockey fan pay the Beanpot any attention before?

I thought it was a really well-played game and BU was the slightly better team for most of the night but the NU PP is just so deadly. Solow tried to get it low to Gaudette with like 8 seconds left in the 2nd period and didn't connect and I thought "We'll have 90 seconds of PP time to start the 3rd". 4 seconds later the puck was in the net.

I am not shore what that means. But I will be willing to say you shouldn't have spent money.

Completely agree. Outside of the putrid BU PK, I had little problem with how we played. The puck bounced your way more tonight and your PP was the clear difference. Put a healthy Harper and Greenway out there and it may have been closer, who knows.

"I am not shore"? Is that a typing error or a way to make SURE I'm not an easterner? lol And no, I wouldn't pay 10 cents to watch eastern hockey. But when its free and I'm bored? Why not?

Btw, BU is/was ranked #19 in the PWR, was that NE's first Top 20 win of the season?
