Beanpot 2023

New to this forum with an East coast bias. Looking forward to the Beanpot tournament that starts tomorrow with Northeastern vs BU @ 4:00 PM EST and then BC vs Harvard @ 7:30 PM. Obviously Northeastern is favored in this tournament but does anyone see any upsets in their crystal ball?

I have to take a shot and pick BU to win this thing with consecutive upsets. For at least the past 3yrs, the Northeastern program has been the envy of Boston, if not all of New England. This year, they have a great goalie, 4 lines of forwards, and 10 kids in street clothes every game that could start for most HE teams. However, I don't think they have really been tested since the Fall. I mean, how many times can you play Holy Cross, UNH, Merrimack and Maine and not break a sweat. BU has won their last 6 games, and I think 4 in OT shootouts. The goalie has done a nice job and it seems like the line chemistry is starting to gel. Getting past NU would be a tall order.

BC should get past Harvard without issue. They have been so inconsistent, but the goalie has found a groove and I think HU just wants the season over. HU goalie has had a great season despite the record.

BU beats BC in a close one next Tuesday. Hey, I picked the outlier - It's too easy to pick the favorite.

This extraordinary year calls for an extraordinary cheer from this Crimson fan: Go BC! Go BC! Spare everyone the prospect of Taze Thompson and her ex-teammates being forced to face off for the Beanpot.

I watched the second game. BC didn't look half bad, I'll bet Tony is quite pleased.

I am! We really haven't been playing all that badly in the second half of the season. I like the team. If we can persuade Cayla Barnes to do one more year we'll probably be the WHEA favorite next season.

Do you have impact players arriving, or is that mainly based on Northeastern losing four of its top five scorers? If it's just the latter, the Eagles are 1-5 versus the duo of UConn and UVM, with the one win being in OT. Granted that neither of those teams radiate championship pedigree, and the Catamounts also lose a lot, but BC hasn't established that it's best of the rest. You do have to replace a goalie, which can always be tricky.

bc has a decent class coming in that is lead by defensemen Molly Jordan and a couple of intrguing forward recruits in Pellerin and Taber. bc's issue is that beyond the 3 Bs... Barnes, Bilka, and Browne there isn't much star power throughout the rest of their lineup.

I'm guessing that Browne is done after this season, unless there is a redshirt somewhere on her resume. I have heard of both Newhook and Roy, so there must be a few other letters in the BC alphabet.

Next year's HEA will likely be won by whomever gets the most love via the portal.

Browne is the main skater we're losing, and she'll be a tough one to replace. Taber, Pellerin, and Jordan should step right into big roles though.

I have heard Bilka should stick around for a 5th year. I hope so, because she's one of my favorite players we've ever had. She's a complete 200-foot player, something not a lot of our top scorers were known for.

Of course, NU graduating an all-star team of players will help.

Barnes is the big question mark on if she'll return. She won't transfer though, I'm not worried about that. She'll either stay for her 6th (lol) year or get on USA Hockey payroll.

Hoping maybe some NIL cash might persuade her to stick around. She's just so talented. If she stays it'll probably be our best year in quite some time

Replacing Levy is going to be hard, she should get a serious look from Team USA. But I really like Grace Campbell. We'll be fine in goal.

I'm sorry Tony, intentionally placing the image in your head of Barnes possibly jumping to OSU's roster. I was just having some fun with you but it was a scary thought wasn't it? (Big Grin)
