B1G Kitties visit the KC -Wisconsin hosts Penn State 12/6 & 12/7

PSU posters...there was the play by play guy for PSU that posted last year, but he got let go, so I assume he's off the grid.

Thanks. Yeah, I followed him on Twitter too and he hasn't posted there in quite a while either. It's unfortunate as he was pretty knowledgable on PSU Hockey.

Re: B1G Kitties visit the KC -Wisconsin hosts Penn State 12/6 & 12/7

Serious question - Are there any PSU fans who post here? Just curious as I haven't seen any. Would hope some fans make their way here as it makes these threads more fun when there is discussion between fan bases.

The answer to that questions seems to be no ... and that's not a good sign for PSU hockey. Everything was handed to them on a silver platter ... megabucks benefactor, beautiful new rink, and B1G conference with big-name schools -to go along with a good coach in Gadowsky. But PSU seems to be just a football school - and having lived in PA, I can tell you that it seems like the population as a whole has no awareness of college hockey and very little knowledge of hockey in general, save for the most die-hard Pens and Flyers fans. Most of the Flyers fans in the Philadelphia area are johnny-come-lately bandwagon fans who got interested during the Flyers' recent playoff runs, and these are the kinds of fans who come to games to see fights and shootouts.

I don't know, attendance has been pretty good.

I think the culture will come. It doesn't happen overnight. At least I hope it does as it will make this conference a lot more fun :)

As far as hockey's popularity in general in Pennsylvania is concerned, it shouldn't be a problem. Most places don't have a large hockey-mad population, but can still have a good population of hockey fans. Knowledge of college hockey comes with time. Hockey fans in PA who start following PSU hockey will learn some more each year. What will be interesting to see and what could be difficult is how it plays out in small town PA in and around State College. I know there are a few NHL players from the state, and I think that's mainly the Pittsburgh area (I don't have the names in front of me).

Hockey won't be the most popular sport, but it doesn't have to be, and that won't stop them from building a successful program.

Looks like 8 current players from PA, and four of those are from Pittsburgh.

And 2 more are from Pittsburgh suburbs. I imagine hockey interest and participation are much greater in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia areas than in central PA, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out in the long run.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Penn State produce a top ten team within five years. Attendance is very good, their facility is great, and they have all the resources they need. When you consider they've gone from zero to fielding a competitive team in two years, the sky is really the limit. By competitive I mean they might not win a ton this year, but they are certainly good enough to be a threat to win over anyone on any given night. (Hopefully not this weekend, though.)

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Badgers come out a little tight tonight, given that these are practically must win games. Considering last weekend and the loss last year to PSU, sometimes it can be a little tricky to reign in the emotions and get down to business. Hopefully we settle in and get to the net early and often.

Was supposed to go to a Christmas cocktail party tonight, but turns out Mrs. McBadgerton is feeling slightly under the weather and we're going to skip it... Now trying to figure out how best to balance empathy for the Mrs. with my happiness at being able to watch the game live tonight. Another tricky set of circumstances to negotiate...

Re: B1G Kitties visit the KC -Wisconsin hosts Penn State 12/6 & 12/7

I won't be at either game and I probably won't see them live as I'll be at HS games.

Sounds like a Gopher fan excuse... :D:p

I believe they're on tape delay?

Set her up in front of the Hallmark Channel in a recliner with some hot vanilla milk and a cookie or 2 and let her doze off while watching a gooy oohy Christmas movie. Check on her between periods, just don't yell too loud at the TV.

Let's Go RED!

We'll forgive your rodent leaning excuse.

Just fire up the DVR or yes they are on tape telay.

Those in Milwaukee with Time Warner, the game is on 1310 (The extra fox sports channel) both nights. 7 Friday and 8 Saturday.

It is an HD channel so hopefully that means the game is in HD.

Go Bucky

Thanks Tim. This is much better advice then what I came up with. Specifically: shouting, "You're sick? YES! I CAN WATCH THE BADGERS!!" all while doing a little dance that incorporated several Phil-like arm motions.

I'm just going by the daggers in Mrs. McBadgerton's eyes, but it appears that something about this reaction was not entirely appropriate?

She is of course a Badger Fan, so I'll just substitute the game for the hall mark channel and all will be well. (Probably.)

On another note, I'm struck by the fact that I could choose between broadcasts of 4 different college hockey games tonight. This is very good all around.

WE WANT MORE!

Tonight's game is on Fox Sports Wisconsin alternate channel. This guide should help you find it: LINK

Moot point now I suppose, but for me the game was on an alternate, alternate channel, 693, on Uverse instead of the normal 745 which had a bunch of rodent coverage on it.

Re: B1G Kitties visit the KC -Wisconsin hosts Penn State 12/6 & 12/7

I think the "we want Dante" chant was pretty strong, even moreso than "Jake was better."

Re: B1G Kitties visit the KC -Wisconsin hosts Penn State 12/6 & 12/7

Good win in that we handled an overmatched team the way we should.

Welcome to the B1G PSU!

Btw, left the HS game I was at tonight (after my boy's JV game) as the visiting team had 7 skaters and a "goalie" who may as well have had newspapers for leg pads - he was that out of his element/unqualified. Had regular skates on and one time when he went (fell) down it took him 7 seconds to get back up.

They brought that to play the #3 team in the state. Watched 2-3 minutes of our team passing it around the horn as obviously coach had told them not to shoot much. Game ended 14-0. Probably could have been 70-0 and that's not even close to an overestimate.

I honestly felt really bad for them. Play their whole lives of youth hockey and that's what they get in HS.

Hey announcer in the replay!

It's Ol-check, not Ol-chuck.
