B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

I have been told non conference games will be the traditional Friday, Saturday setup but conference games likely will be different. IMO, it will take a few years to get all the kinks worked about before the Big Ten gets their act together. I fully expect many fans complaining, especially Minnesota fans. It will be interesting.
I will be complaining about the weeknight games. I've heard we will see more of them. I already hate the 1 or 2 Tuesday night games Michigan has on its schedule.

All because of television. Which, probably will never be up to FSN snuff. No pregrame etc. I am not looking forward to it.

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

The University of Illinois is a prime candidate for the BTHC. Need cash though...lots of it.

Nebraska is on the list too.

From the Nebraska article...

"You don't need 14,000 fans a night to be successful in D1 hockey. Hell, I think Michigan's place hold like 6000. Which is too many of those *******s in one place at a time if you ask me, but I digress."

:D

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

It's been a while since I've checked in here... we're not going to have shootouts, right? We're just going to have ties after 65 minutes of hockey and treat the fans like adults, right? I'm not getting my hopes up.

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

I would like to see 4x4 OT's with 10mins instead of 5 for the regular season.

As a UW fan, I vote for no overtime. Call the game a tie for RPI/PWR purposes and go directly to the shootout to determine the winner for conference purposes.

Or a coin flip: Flip 2 coins, two tails and UW loses otherwise it's a tie. I'd be happy with that.

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Why am I even responding to you? Barry will decide.

:p

In most cases, I would take that to mean Barry will decide which overtime procedure to adopt. But with him, you really mean Barry will decide who wins, don't you?

He will stand up in his luxury box overlooking the rabble, extend his arm out, and . . . thumbs up or down.

HAHAHAHA! You think Barry will actually be at the games? It will happen via video....probably prerecorded.

He'll be doing a line off some hooker's *** with a group of football recruits and a VERY nervous assistant AD will tap his shoulder...

"Sorry to bother my Lord while he's doing the University's business, but it's that ice hockey again. They've ended in another 1-1 tie."

I'm always in favor of not changing the way the game is played too much. Keeping it 5x5 is ideal for me, but making the OT period longer is a good idea. 5 minutes is just too short.

And if 70 minutes of hockey doesn't produce a winner, then so be it.

Re: B1G Hockey: The Countdown Begins

Please, no shootout for any purposes.

Agreed. If they do decide to have shootouts, when in attendance I'll either leave the rink before the shootout, or remain in my seat but turn my back to the ice in protest. I realize it probably wouldn't have an impact; but, it would be cool if fans of all schools showed their distaste for shootouts by doing something like this.

Illinois needs a barn and until then it wont happen.

If Nebraska wants, it is very realistic for men's ice hockey. The new Pinnacle Bank Arena just had the ice floor completed this month. You could also see the way the floor seats are designed to pull back to have an ice rink right in the middle of it.

Once the Brestow Ice Center (2 sheets of ice next to Pinnicle Bank Arena) is completed Nebraska then has a new practice facility as well. If you want Nebraska hockey email the Athletic Department and tell them:

Their is no reason for Nebraska not to add hockey.
