Austin Smith Colgate

sshablak

It all starts with the goaltending.
Little miffed about no coverage on Colgate's Austin Smith, so. He leads the nation in goals with fifteen, second in scoring one point behind. He also leads the nation in shorties with four.

He also had five goals last weekend and POTW goes to a guy that had two goals and three assists. Needs mention.

Now you know how we felt last year. And the year before.

Re: Austin Smith Colgate

I actually think he's getting a fair amount of attention. From USCHO a few weeks ago and from College Hockey News this week.

Re: Austin Smith Colgate

Give it time I say. If he is up there in points he can be a Hobey Finalist.

Re: Austin Smith Colgate

Wah. Last season Jack Maclellan was second in the nation in PPG until he was injured for the remainder of the season. We didn't start threads complaining about his lack of exposure. In fact, I can't see why you'd want to- you should want your best players to remain a secret so other teams have no idea how to stop them.

Well, it's not like your team itself was doing that well. RPI and Polacek on the other hand...

Re: Austin Smith Colgate

I will reiterate...Five goals over the weekend should be player of the week. The POTW had two goals. What part didn't you understand ?

Re: Austin Smith Colgate

Agree Shabby! It may be too early to make comparisons with Jesse Winchester or Andy McDonald, but Austin definitly has the potential to make his mark in pro hockey after college IMHO. Very opportunistic, a nose for the goal and awareness of all the players around him, sees the ice extremely well, elusive/speedy, + a tough mental attitute this year. He is outworking the D-men to get to the loose puck and bury it. Will be an exciting rest of the season for sure.

Re: Austin Smith Colgate

Or, you could complain to your school's Sports Information Director. Part of his job is to get players promoted in the press.

Re: Austin Smith Colgate

Now he's leading the country in scoring just not goals. Eighteen goals in sixteen games with FIVE shorthanded goals !!!! No Respect !
