Arizona State Sun Devils 2016-17 -- Year Two!

Re: Arizona State Sun Devils 2016-17 -- Year Two!

Actually the talks are still going on about a Coyotes/Sun Devil arena.

It might be a ploy by the Coyotes to get an arena deal from some city in the valley

I didn't say the talks weren't ongoing. But if you read the Phoenix Business Journal the cities of Phoenix and Glendale are pushing against the State tax to fund the arena. So yes, they are talking, but the news or support if you will, has not been positive.

I am watching tonights game with 6:00 left in the 2nd it is 11-0 Time to review scheduling Division II
They seem to hold their own with non ranked Division I teams.
We will see if SNH has jet lag tomorrow night
Does a game like this help or hurt?

We have no choice at this time during the season. Everybody else is deep into conference play and nobody is willing to make a non conference road trip this late in the season. Which is understandable. We sprinkled in two home weekends of non D-1 contests to keep the athletes on campus a little and break up some of the travel and expenses. We also finish the year with a road series at the USA U-18s, which many other D-1s have played. So help or hurt? Doesn't really matter. It is that or play no games at all. Once they are in a conference these type of contests will go away at this time during the season.

What was nice was the building was full despite the opponent and had a fun atmosphere. The building is subpar for this level, but they do make the best they can of it. Hopefully they can continue with the same type of effort tonight as they prepare for their final 2 road weekends at Quinnipiac and Western Michigan.

Has any league offered a spot for you guys ?

No offer from what has been reported externally. Last season if you recall, the NCHC turned us down and the Big Ten also declined to add us. I believe a lot of it was stemming on some sort of Arena announcement, which still has not been solidified. Some around the program is saying that there will be some sort of announcement coming soon and that next season will be the final as an independent. Not sure what conference that would be. NCHC would have been the best bet, in my opinion, but not sure if there have been resurrected talks with the Big Ten or if they go to the WCHA, who was looking to add ASU initially. Guess time will tell. I'm certainly anxious to get some news!

I had planned to go but could not get a solid answer to getting a ticket in the handicapped area, is it true they don't sell tickets at the door for games at Oceanside? I know Friday was SRO and close to SRO for Saturday.

Excellent write up! While goaltending has been a revolving door, Robert Levin, the senior, has played the last three games. He was in goal for the tie against Ohio State and the two wins over D2/3 Southern New Hampshire. Levin is not flashy, but plays a very solid and clean game. I would be surprised if he isn't in goal tomorrow. Looking forward to watching the online streams!

I believe they sell them at the window when they are available. This past weekend they didn't because they did reach SRO for both nights. We have two more against Simon Fraser from Canada. Even though we only had SNHU in town (no dig at them, just not a D-1 opponent), the student section was great and the atmosphere was fun. Hope you can make it out! I'm looking forward to it going and it is hard to believe it is our final home weekend. But it has been a fun season watching the boys grow.

Priskie's two power play goals help lead Quinnipiac past Arizona State 5-2

Different line combinations last night. Baillargeon was out of the lineup as was Gushue. Baillargeon got dinged in the first game last weekend against SNHU. He did play on Saturday, but wonder if he was held our for injury. That left only Murphy left on the first line as L. Rowe was moved to the second line with Croston. Gushue was a top line defender most of the season, but missed seven games. He also returned on Saturday vs. SNHU, but was again out of the lineup last night. Not that this is an excuse. QU took advantage of our parade to the penalty box and dominated the contest. We played a bit better in the third and hopefully that will carry over, much like it did in game two of the series with Ohio State. After four straight starts, I have to believe Levin is not in goal tonight. Will be interesting to see who starts and how the line combos shake out. Go Devils!

Re: Arizona State Sun Devils 2016-17 -- Year Two!

Awesome bounce back again for the Sun Devils, winning 4-2 over #17 QU. Joey Daccord was awesome in net as the Devils. ASU went into a defensive shell in period 3, up 4-1 entering the period, being outshot 28-1. Not sure how many of those were great chances, but Daccord answered the challenge. Local kid, Croston continues to play well, netting two goals. ASU was without leading scorer Robbie Baillargeon and top defenseman Nicholas Gushue. Another fun night as we continue build the program. Go Devils!

Well on a night ASU played arguably its most complete game of the season in a 4-2 loss to #9 W. Michigan, the school announced the proposed agreement between them and the Coyotes is off the table. No idea what caused this, but it is troubling for NHL hockey staying in Arizona and who knows what will happen with ASU. Article below.

At this point ASU should just do a full renovation of Wells Fargo Arena and put basketball and hockey under one roof. Probably the cheapest way to go.

Tippett is going to lose his job and then they are moving to Q city. Guaranteed🙂

I don't think it would be feasible. Not only is the building old, scheduling would be a nightmare with both men's and women's hoops, wrestling, gymnastics etc.

It would be cheaper to go back to the original idea of building next to the basketball arena, on the land that previously hosted the frat/sorority houses. That was slated to be a 40 million project, 4k arena. But now with seemingly everything money wise being given to the football stadium and dedicated football admin building, who knows what they will do. But the lack of any public declaration is concerning. Frustrating to say the least.
