Apollo 11 - 50 years on.

Re: Apollo 11 - 50 years on.

102:15:44 Collins Houston, Columbia. Reading you loud and clear. How me?
102:15:46 Mission Control Roger. Five by, Mike. How did it go? Over.
102:15:51 Collins Listen, babe. Everything's going just swimmingly, Beautiful.

Re: Apollo 11 - 50 years on.

I have the CBS News YouTube stream on my TV, and Oh. My. God. They were using toys, models, and real life sized props to illustrate what's going on. It's so late 60's it hurts. :D

Also, it's interesting the live stream mission control audio on the CBS News YouTube feed is ~7 seconds behind the Apollo in Real Time website.

I have the streams side by side. The CBS art conception of the earthrise is identical to the actuals from the mission.

It will be interesting to hear if Cronkite and the CBS team realize Armstrong's audible in the final 13 minutes.

Re: Apollo 11 - 50 years on.

My feed keeps cutting out. Don't know if it's my Internet or what. :(

While we watch the Moon Landing, let's also remember this is the 43rd anniversary of Viking 1 landing on Mars and sending visuals back to Earth. Another sad reminder of where we should be now had we continued on our trajectory of space exploration.

The feed is perfect on this end.

One of the amazing things about this is how news once was. They used to aim for the smart viewer.

Re: Apollo 11 - 50 years on.

This was about the time my Dad was practically passing out from excitement / tension. He wasn't part of the LM engine system but he knew everybody who was.

I remember them. Except we had a small b&w so in a way it way almost more dramatic -- it felt so remote.

We had a color TV. Not a Quasar (solid state by Motorola for you younguns), but maybe 20" on the diameter.

Found the sides of the moonwalk. Now I have to find the projector.

Re: Apollo 11 - 50 years on.

Look at the full spectrum of the audio channels at Mission Control right now. Every single station is humming as opposed to the usual where maybe only 20% were up.
