I had to do this for a client project once, to be onboarded to the pass-through company we were subcontracted through, and I had to provide redacted stubs for all my employers for the previous 7 years. Fortunately I was only employed by two companies during that time, but I was absolutely infuriated at the busywork that they should have done themselves by calling the HR departments.

Exactly! All they need is employment dates. F off with all this.
 
So this week I've been telling colleagues that I'm leaving. And after shock, the next most common reaction is "good for you, I hope you're going somewhere less insane".


I did not expect that answer over and over. But my god, people are not happy. Epic implementations are never smooth, even when they are smooth. But when one of the big players is coming from one of the first ever home-grown EHRs where they fully owned and could customize to their hearts content ... and expect Epic to bend similarly...


Sorry guys. Epic does not give a crap that you developed your own EHR in the 1970s. They don't care that you really really want it to be one way. It isn't that way. If you're Kaiser, out in CA. Then maybe they'll bend for you. Maybe.
 
Two job interviews, two jobs I don't want.
the first one the recruiter touted work life balance, great company cars about their people. The opposite was evidenced during the interview.

The second one I actually haven't interviewed yet, but in preparation for tomorrow's interview I looked at the location on maps where of all places I saw a review: "HR manager [name redacted] thinks people should be paid less for the same work. The man is chock full of nepotism and favoritism".
yeah, that name i know as he was fired from my current company because of his sexism, racism, and complete lack of respect for anyone other than his superiors. Now how do I tactfully tell the company that I'm not interested in the position if that guy is the HR manager?

I'm not sure if your industry's management colludes. If they do, I guess you say nothing, unfortunately. If they don't, then I'd tell them exactly. Maybe you can save a few employees the predations of this derp.

From what you have said in the past, the industry itself may be permeated with these dimwits, in which case, there's always barber college.
 
The "we don't need your help" experts had a total false alarm panic this weekend when trying to import patient data into PRD. They emailed and sent teams chats to me over a dozen times asking me to get on a troubleshooting call. Between 9:30 PM and 11 PM on a Friday night and then again from 8-9:30 AM Saturday morning. There was no suggestion that they may need a resource. Then they called me at 9:30, which actually woke me up, and demanded I get on their call.

I politely declined.

then my boss called and asked if we had anyone available, which we didn't because it's a weekend, none of us are on call, and I had one analyst out with a death in the family, two on vacation and another doing victim support activities (she ... never mind). So no, I had no one available.


Fast forward to today, and those same "we don't need your help" experts realized they'd sent out updates through Epic's connectivity network on 50,000 imported patients. It never occurred to anyone that Care Everywhere is a thing.

Oh they do. But this is what happens when very smart people think they're experts in everything, and reject the notion that something like an enterprise-level electronic health record system might be a little complicated.
 
They got very bent out of shape when another team refused to do an emergency change control request just now (we have a change control meeting scheduled for tomorrow at 11:30), even though they have a proposed fix.

This group has the most disrespect I've ever seen for people's personal time. Enjoy the churn, idiots. Good luck keeping staff. This is 75% of why I quit.
 
I literally can't imagine calling someone on a Saturday -who isn't on call - that I know is leaving the company.

i choose to not suggest things that get me two finger salutes and don't solve the problem. Might as well have called the White House switch board.
 
We were told our merit increases and yearly bonus this past Friday. The company did not have the best year and there was a lot of restructuring and job eliminations and a focus on expenses, and so on and so forth. We were told not to expect much with regards to bonuses. And then we got the amounts and it was actually way better than expected. Not as much as last year, but more than I thought I was going to get. I can only wonder what it would have been if the company did not have the best year. My manager told me the pool for merit raises wasn't that great and then said I'm starting to max out on my paygrade. I looked at it and I'm somewhere between half and three quarters so I still have some room and told her that. I'm at a point in my life where I'm not going to whine. Not sure how much longer I'll be here - do I retire in five or seven years? And given my current situation having to take care of my aging mom, I'm way more interested in the flexibility I have to be with her as much as possible and work remotely. That's been eye opening for me the past six months or so.

I think it pissed my own boss off enough that she kinda refused to participate beyond getting the actual on-call person involved. This other group just has zero respect for personal time, and so much of an ego that they won't slow down and ask for help.

Good news!

I am so excited to move to my new job. I just want my life back. I want my personal time to be my time. I'm tired of 10-12 hour days, and working every other weekend and about 2/3 of the holidays. They could have offered to double my salary and I'd have said no*.





*probably. That would be a lot of money.
 
I've been approached by Children's Services at my job to take on Community Living Supports cases in addition to residential work. The Director of Children's services believes I'd be better off in CLS than Supports Coordination.

Got a job offer. *yeah* half the commute but $12k less. likely closer to 40 hr weeks than 50 hr weeks, but a complete unknown. the interview all I saw was a conference room. No idea what this manufacturing facility looks like.

Decisions are hard. I don't like making them.

True, but having decisions to make means you have at least some agency, which I have come to believe helps keep us alive.

  • Week 2 they named me interim at my boss' position while they did interviews
  • Week 3 they invited me to apply along with the other candidates
  • Today, day 18, they named me full-time permanent replacement for my boss
What the hell just happened?

I ended up turning down the offer I had. They didn't budge when I tried to negotiate. Besides the money, they didn't budge on vacation. 48 hrs less PTO. Beyond that, hubs and I are taking the 8th off to visit the worst state ever and watch the eclipse...I wouldn't have that luxury at new job. I gained some perspective and appreciation for the flexibility my current position offers me. Plus, we get new Swedish overlords in April, and I'm curious to find out what that will bring.
