But people can't own them reasonably. Cause they don't reason and their leaders don't reason.

Time to take the toys away. Then MAYBE then they'll actually own up to their responsibility to the rest of us and end all this ****ing stupidity.

After Club Q, after several drag events where Proud Boys and other right wing terrorists have shown up and attempted to intimidate and threaten, after 400+ laws introduced in several states against my community...

No.

If GOP really thinks it's about mental health, then require mental health check to purchase a gun. As well as follow ups at some interval (2 yrs, or whatever).

But, as we know, it's all lip service and distraction from politicians.

They already object to so-called "red flag" laws every time they're proposed, using their usual slippery slope fallacies and, "Who will guard the guards?" rhetoric. Meanwhile, if a pilot seeks mental health treatment or starts taking antidepressants, the FAA will deny their medical certificate pending a review, which prevents them from flying unless they are granted a special authorization by the FAA.

Don't bother...

People like Scoob, DGF, Alfa, etc. view us the same way as they do any red hat wearer... They don't want to hear that people can logically and reasonably own firearms. Also since they don't own any themselves, they don't give a **** about them. So they want to burn the earth to get what they want.

There is no negotiating with the left-oriented MAGAs either...

No offense, but just because plenty of you can doesn't offset the large amount of you that don't. Guns are too dangerous to just say "well it is only X percentage that are bad so we can deal with it" because that X percentage are causing real harm. Your right to own guns doesn't supersede the rights of a kid to go to school and not get killed or the rights of someone to walk around a city and not get shot.

And the fact is the gun owners let the nuts control the narrative for their side. Until that isn't the case there is never going to be any real negotiation on fixing the problem. You want us to take you seriously, stop letting the NRA speak for you. Until then, sorry. (and dont even start to say they don't...there is no mas group of non NRA gun owners speaking up to fix the problem so the NRA is it)

Whenever anything else this dangerous is out there we take steps to fix it. People got mad at all the drunk driving so we upped education, made stiffer penalties and allowed for more road checks by the cops to prevent them. We have now hundreds of mass shootings per year and half the states are actively making it easier to get guns and carry them in public. So pardon me if it falls on deaf ears that some of you might feel persecuted because we want to get a bit more draconian about this...fucking lives are at stake and that is a bit more important than your feelings.

This country is fucking stupid.

I’ve proposed this concept in the past and no one has been on board.

Propose it to the fuckwits who won't negotiate with us. You won't because you don't really care if anything changes because you like guns and want to have them. You are willing to have crap like this happen because you believe people really want to take your rights away. You are a scare little child and so is most of the people on your side of the argument that pretend they are better than the "bad guys with guns".

This killing was done with legally obtained weapons people. The laws aren't working and until you all are willing to start really taking steps to change how your side (the whole side including your mouthpieces) negotiates you are all part of the problem. Yes even liberal gun owners, you are part of the problem too.

John Thune said yesterday that it is too soon to discuss...it has been too soon for 40 fucking years.

He hasn't proposed anything of the sort.

Your drunk driving analogy is spot on. That is what is being proposed my MANY gun owners. Those are basically the proposals that are being brought forward to keep things in check.

But they are shot down by BOTH sides. This truly is a negotiation where the correct answer is something where neither side walks away happy.

The NRA will never budge or negotiate on any of this, so fighting for reasonable-sounding restrictions is the same fight as banning guns outright.

Right, although it's not necessarily just the NRA. It's much bigger, and deeper, than that, which makes it harder to overcome.

Show me the money where Democrats are shooting down gun measures, especially to the point where they're actively blocking legislation from advancing.

Remember 10 years ago when we were told background checks were the answer to our mass shooting problem? How did that one turn out? The frustrating part of the debate on guns is the people with the answers aren’t listened to.

Wasn't that enacted in the 90s?

So every sale currently requires checks?

Again. Gun owners had the power to make that work.

They failed.

So, we need to take the toys away.

The shooting Monday and every other high profile one since Newtown that I’m aware of the shooter passed a background check. It would have made zero difference.

This shooter would have failed a comprehensive background check. Since the system is neutered to the point of being worthless it didn't happen. Newtown as well.
You failed. Everyone like you failed.

Time to take the toys away.

Who the hell said that? Besides, how many legal guns are still purchased that either don't require a background check, and/or the background check isn't fully completed in time before the individual still obtains his gun? Expanded background checks are but one piece of the many puzzle pieces we have to fit together to solve our unique gun violence problem in this country. We're #1 in most guns per capita in the entire world, and #1 in most gun deaths in the world amongst developed countries. We're almost exactly the same (not statistically significant) when it comes to having more people with mental illness, nor are we statistically significant in the amount of violent crimes that occur. We are unique in the gun violence and gun deaths though.
Also, quit playing victim. You never posted anything nearly as elaborate as what aparch posted, although I know you suggested a waiting period, educational requirement (learning how to use/shoot gun), and passing some kind of mental health test. I agreed with all of them then, and I am still fine with them now. It's not enough, not even close, but it would help. The rest of your posts are drivel when it comes to guns. We're #1 in most guns per capita in the entire world, and #1 in most gun deaths per capita amongst developed countries, including gun-loving ones like Canada and Switzerland. Obviously they're both doing something we're not.
