Amazing Stat for this years Frozen Four

Looking at season stats for college hockey at collegehockeystats.net I came across this:

Scoring Margin: Games GF GF/G GA GA/G Margin
1 Miami 43 146 3.40 79 1.84 1.56
2 RIT 40 144 3.60 82 2.05 1.55
3 Wisconsin 41 163 3.98 105 2.56 1.41
4 Boston College 40 159 3.98 103 2.58 1.40

Your Frozen Four are EXACTLY the top 4 teams for scoring margin.

Go figure.

Wow, you mean scoring more than your opponent is what it takes to win in hockey? Who knew? This post is the statistical equivalent to a John Madden revelation.

Re: Amazing Stat for this years Frozen Four

Looks like that sets up a Miami-RIT final. I can live with that.;)

Re: Amazing Stat for this years Frozen Four

I noticed that earlier. They're also the top 4 in winning percentage (well, technically Wisconsin's tied with Denver).
1) Miami (.756)
2) BC (.712)
RIT (.712)
4) Wisconsin (.707)
Denver (.707)

It makes sense, but given the potential for upsets and teams getting hot down the stretch, I'd bet the season leaders rarely all get to the FF. Thus it is pretty interesting.

And it's 1v4 and 2v3 in the semi's. That's kinda neat.

As an RIT fan I find it to be very interesting - considering there has been talk that the Tigers don't belong. So maybe it ~shouldn't~ be a very interesting stat but unfortunately it is.
