Re: Amazing Race 19 Normal Contestants Survivor Winners and Olympians

Well there is certainly a lot of eye candy on the show this year. The showgirls lucked out when losing their passport but them, the twins and the grandparents are looking silly so far. I wonder if based on the 1st half of the leg how tough it is going to be this year. I also hope the hazard is something a least somewhat difficult.

Re: Amazing Race 19 Normal Contestants Survivor Winners and Olympians

So the grandparents finish last not much of a surprise after they wander aimlessly for who knows how long. Non elimination leg to start  Guess they are trying to change things up. A double elimination leg next week how is that going to work? Eliminate one at the half way point and one at the end or just the two last teams lose?

Re: Amazing Race 19 Normal Contestants Survivor Winners and Olympians

- Anyone think that there was a little help behind the scenes to get the showgirls their passport?
- I like how the grandmother got the saying in the first try after it took the twin a million tries.

Re: Amazing Race 19 Normal Contestants Survivor Winners and Olympians

The casting for this show seems to be getting worse and worse. How many blondes with lots of "personality" do we need? I was disappointed in the tasks in the first leg as well. Nothing terribly demanding, despite some teams' idiocy.

Re: Amazing Race 19 Normal Contestants Survivor Winners and Olympians

We were spoon-fed the video board message. In real time playing the game, that would be pretty easy to miss for a while.

They did that last time, too, didn't they? A two part "you are still racing"?

The woman in that couple is officially my favorite racer of this season. She was completely positive and supportive about everything. Granted, older couples are usually much more kind. Forty years of marriage smooths out all the rough edges.

It seems like there are really three sets of twins in this race: the actuals, the show girls, and the gay guys. The latter are really freaky -- it must be like making out with yourself.

Both these things struck me, too, but they were probably artifacts of cutting and story arcs.

It's always interesting to see who gets portrayed as blowing up at each other early. That usually telegraphs there will be a big explosion later, since the director works backwards from any unique event and tries to construct a narrative where you build towards it.

So the Survivors and the flight attendants go home. I disagree with how they handled the orphanage the sign said you must hand over all your money to receive your clue yet the orphanage gave most of the teams the clue without receiving all the money. I guess they were on the honor system. I wondered if they would have to go back or be penalized. Pretty uneventful leg for a double elimination leg.

Looks like Angkor Wat next week.

My understanding was that all they got for handing over their earning was that symbol and they got an actual clue telling them how to get there once they turned in all money in their possession. I don't have any sympathy for teams that didn't do this correctly. Rule #1 in this race...R...E...A...D everything. Twice.

Re: Amazing Race 19 Normal Contestants Survivor Winners and Olympians

Not surprised the domestic partners were eliminated. The "we've got something to prove" teams rarely last too long. I'm surprised Ethan and Jenna left so soon, although I guess it was a bit of a crap shoot with that orphanage deal. You knew some teams would read the sign but most wouldn't. I think the brother and sister team aren't long for this race either. At some point their constant griping at each other is going to cause them to miss something and they will be done. The grandparents, although a lovely couple, don't seem to be very physically capable and their days are numbered as well. Early on, I like Andy and Tommy to win this thing. They seem to have it together and look like they can go for the long haul.

None of the teams that gave all there money, I think there were two, were shown getting anything other than the same amulet that the other teams got. Should the teams have looked for an additional clue sure but even the two teams that found it it was sort of wait a minute there's some additional writing on the sign, as they were heading out, not we better slow down take 30 seconds and check around for an additional clue. I thought it was a bit of contradiction that the clue said something like earn the money and give it to the orphans without mentioning you should give up all your money they just put that on a sign on the table. It was also a way to get people to run/walk to the pitstop rather than cab which is something else that normally is in clue not dictated by an instruction sign at the end of a challenge.

Re: Amazing Race 19 Normal Contestants Survivor Winners and Olympians

My guess is that teams thought the sign was telling them about the orphanage, and since most didn't care, they didn't read the sign. I thought I saw one of the teams who gave all their money get a piece of paper in addition to the amulet.

Survivors and Stewardesses: see ya!

You're right, they don't show any teams getting any additional info/clue, but during the narration leading up to the orphanage Phil did say they would be given additional information that would help them find the Pit Stop. Shady, I don't think so, since like I said, it's not that hard to read every single thing on this race.

It was the Survivors and the Supergayz who went home. (Oh, I forgot they were Stewardesses. I guess their airport knowledge didn't help them much.)

I'm overjoyed the Old Folks are still in it. I like them as much as any team in race history.

Is it my imagination, or at some point is the brother going to look at his sister and say "25 years of your bitching is enough" and pop her right in the eye?

I get that they are attempting to make it a little more "challenging" this year with the look up clue from last week that was written in Chinese and the small sign at the orphanage this week but to me it doesn't make the show any more exciting to watch in fact the opposite. Last week we were treated to look up what does that mean and Ma and Pa wandering around Taipei. Imagine how bad it would have been if more teams had struggled. Then this week the last 20 minutes of the show was all the teams arriving at the orphanage showing up at the pitstop Phil saying did you give them all your money and them running backand complaining kind of boring. If they want to "toughen" up the show make the roadblocks and detours a little tougher, trickier or more challenging. Take the roadblock go down the cliff walk into the cave wow there's the mask and dagger don't even have to look for it then take the ladder out. Aside from a contestant terrified of heights not that difficult of a task.

Well, making the legs more physically challenging would just turn the show into that Real World/Road Rules Challenge where YDFCs out-grunt each other every week. So they are (apparently) trying to reward cleverness, but I agree the second one seemed to make it all turn on a gimmick.

Re: Amazing Race 19 Normal Contestants Survivor Winners and Olympians

Sorry that I missed this point, but how did the teams know where the pit stop was if they did not get a clue at the orphanage?
