Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Any Pioneer fans looking forward to the Cornell and DU matchup?

Definitely, I fully expect a DU sweep :)

NCAA legislation approved to give BIG 5 conferences more power to increase $$$$ to student athletes. If it survives an override attempt it becomes official on October 1st.

From the NY Times article

If the endorsement passes through a 60-day comment period, the so-called Big 5 — the Southeastern Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Pacific-12, the Big Ten and the Big 12 — will receive the power to raise the value of scholarships, improve health insurance, allow players to consult agents and more.

I am excited Mr. Goon. I live in NJ and will go to Ithaca for the weekend. The last time I saw DU-Cornell in person, we won a National Championship.

Crap.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

I don't like the legislation, but it's better that is passes. If it fails when it goes to a larger vote, the 65 Big 5 Conference schools could leave the NCAA. One cute thing about that happening; less then 10 Big 5 conference schools play hockey. They would have a very exciting National Big 5 Championship Tourney.

I second the DU Sweep!!

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Pro camp at DU next week in Joy Burns Arena.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Tine lapse video of work at Magness and Hamilton Gym at Denver Pioneers on Facebook.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

I heard Magness has a new Jumbotron and .....wait for it........what we've all been dreaming for since they built the place.... NEW LIGHTING??? There I said it. You heard me. Is this all true? Read my lips = > NEW LIGHTING

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Will Butcher had a good Evaluation Camp--in 6 games he was 1-6-7. Think Evan Cowley got some good experience and should be a help to begin the season.
Pios will be seeing Demko, Santini, Milano and McCoshen when we play BC.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Over the weekend a new sheet of ice was put in place in Magness Arena. At present the maintenace staff is painting all the necessary lines on the ice. The new center ice video screen has been taken out of the arena until such time as all the aformentioned work is complete.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Work continues apace in Magness Arena. This season's ice sheet is in place and all appropriate markings have been painted. Your four on-the-ice-sheet sponsors this season are: Prestige Audi, U S Bank, Pepsi and Ford. Lots of work still remaining to be done in the arena.

Re: All Things Denver XXXVIII: On To Better Days!

Beau Bennett back on the ice and with the lead story on the Pens website.
Bennett has been dealing with wrist issues for the past three years, dating back to his time at the University of Denver.
He's more than ready to get healthy and move on.Bennett is looking forward to a fresh start physically, and with the new staff as well – although he’s already familiar with head coach Mike Johnston. When Bennett made the transition from roller to ice hockey at age 15, he played on the same team as Johnston’s son, Adam, while Mike was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings.

Top 100 Teams of the NCAA Era Tournament
http://board.uscho.com/showthread.php?103607-Top-100-Greatest-Teams-of-the-NCAA-era-Tournament

FS23 is running simulations for the round of 32's top 8 games. Ensure both of DU's remaining teams make the cut.
#3 1960-61 (5 All Americans)
#13 2004-2005 (3 All Americans)
The whole list is on post 516.

BTW, it is possible that the National Champions '60-'61 Pios could meet those nasty Black Bears of Jim Montgomery's '92-'93 National Champions.
