Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

New (first/2nd year) coaches at SLUt and Clarkson. Top tier coaches (still playing as of yesterday) at Quinny, Union, Yale. That'd leave only Cornell, Brown, RPI, Colgate, Harvard, Dartmouth and Princeton.

Think Clarkson would fire Casey Jones? After all, they pretty quickly fired Roll after a couple of losing seasons...

Also, Princeton's about as new as Clarkson, given when Gadowsky left for PSU.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

From what I understand, Gwoz was making a lot more than 221K at DU, with all of the non-base salary items thrown in. Denver Post reported his compensation at just south of $400,000 with all the bonuses included...and that figure was from about 5 years ago.

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

No reason I cannot see why Gwozdecky cannot jump to the NHL. I can even see him head coaching in the AHL waiting to jump to the mother-club.

Triple negative ...in one sentence ?? Wow.. English teachers everywhere are throwing up in their mouths a little...:D

I see one potential one.

I can't help but wonder if Gwoz has the ability to totally motivate guys with big egos. I regret absolutely nothing in terms of DU hockey over the past 19 years, I couldn't be happier that we got him from Miami, and that he didn't end up at Wisconsin when Jeff Sauer retired. I would happily have him continue to coach DU indefinitely. But...

I'll bet that if you gave the team roster from the 03-04 team to an average NHL fan, they would have never heard of ANY of the players. (Average NHL fan, mind you, not big time fan) Carle and Stastny came the following year, but after that, very little success in the national tournament.

Again, I have loved the guy, and would love for this to be a joke (I know it isn't) and have him stay, but IF (and maybe it's a big if) he has trouble motivating players with egos, and if his real skill and talent lies in recruitment, then he's (probably) not going to be a successful coach at the pro level.

RPI won't drop Appert, plus they're friends so I don't think he'd do that. Add Princeton to list of 2nd year coaches. Cornell won't fire Schafer without a really good reason. Brown is finally making advances with Whittet (next year is the first with 100% players recruited by him, I think).

That only leaves Colgate, Harvard, and Dartmouth. Doubt Colgate is willing to spend the money. Harvard seems by far the likely choice.

To be fair, a double negative there would have been perfectly acceptable. (And yes, I am an English teacher. Ok, I WAS an English teacher.)

I could make a case for any of the 3. Harvard was my 1st choice also. Colgate the runner up -- they just committed to building a new barn and may be willing to drop some dough on a new coach....can't see them canning Vaughn though, unless he's ready to step aside and maybe head up into the AD's office (he's been an Asst. A.D. in the past -- may still be).

OMG!
Haven't gotten over the season ending, now this.

Old Pio, think I need a shot of Crown Royal. Send your delivery man!

Re: All Things Denver--XXXV

Derek Lalonde, Eric Rud (I know he's a cc guy), Mike Corbett, Mike Aikens....are a few names that will likely be in the mix....
