University of Denver men's hockey coach Jim Montgomery announced today that two recruits have signed national letters of intent to join the program: forwards Troy Terry and Dylan Gambrell. Both players are products of the Colorado Thunderbirds U16 Program.
Looks like Auston Matthews will be playing in Switzerland next season and will pass on college and the WHL.
Not a huge fan base? The fact is CC annually averages more fans per home game than DU. If the folks at Coors Field price the tickets properly, this event will draw a decent, if not great crowd. The NHL Stadium series game between Colorado and Detroit will be out of the price range of most and in reality not many tickets will be available to the general public. Most tickets to NHL outdoor games are sold to NHL and team corporate partners.
This first time event in Colorado should draw very good numbers as long as the ticket prices are reasonable, i.e. family friendly. Both schools will be well represented at Coors Field.
I agree. There will lots of hype, I'm sure. This is the guinea pig game for the NHL a week later. They need to attract ticket buyers for both weekends
I don't think there has been one NHL outdoor that hasn't been a sellout. I don't think the NHL is worried about the AVS Wings game. It will be interesting to see how well the DU/CC game is marketed. This is a once in a lifetime chance to see these two teams in an outdoor game and should be marketed as such. Hopefully the NHL, Rockies, DU and CC do an aggressive marketing plan for the game. They should be able to attract an audience beyond the DU & CC faithful. The Metro area is significantly larger than when DU and CC sold out the old McNichols Arena many moons ago.
We are looking forward to it, no matter what Mother Nature brings. It could be a blizzard or it could be unseasonably mild and just a spectacular day/night. I'm a little concerned about the distant seating compared to my seats at DU... but that's the nature of the beast. I'm guessing the NHL has specialists who build and oversee the ice for the whole week? This game should be on national TV too
