All Things Denver, XXX1X

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Men's lacrosse final score:

Georgetown--12
Marquette--8

These teams met in the first of two semi-final games in the Big East post-season lacrosse tournament. The winner of today's second game--matching Denver and Villanova--will meet Georgetown on Saturday night with the winner of that game receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Lacrosse tourney.

Men's lacrosse score after 1st period:

Villanova--5
Denver--3

Denver has never led. Wes Berg has all three Denver goals. Trevor Baptiste having an uncharacteristically bad day on faceoffs.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Men's lacrosse halftime score:

Denver--7
Villanova--5

Much better quarter. A couple of man advantage goals. Baptiste won every faceoff of the period. Denver held the ball for nearly the entire quarter on offense.

Men's lacrosse score after 3rd quarter:

Denver--12
Villanova--7

A second consecutive strong period for the Pioneers highlighted by Denver scoring a goal while a man down. Denver starts the 4th quarter with a man advantage.

After trailing 5-3 Denver went on a 13-3 run to take a 16-8 lead over the Wildcats. In short, it was all Denver for the final three quarters. Wes Berg and 'Con Can' with three goals each.

After allowing the game's first goal the Pioneers scored the next four goals. Since then Georgetown has narrowed the gap to two goals only one time. Denver has led most of the game by 3-4-5 goals and now carries a seven goal lead into the final quarter.

Denver has won the Big East tournament and will receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse tournament. Additionally, Denver will host a first round tournament game next weekend against an as of yet undetermined opponent. Tonight's victory caps a second consecutive undefeated season in Big East play for the Pioneers.

Baker Shore goes in first round of ushl draft (#6 overall) to Chicago Steel to be coached by former DU legend Scott McConnell. I think Scott was the one who infamously got in a fight with Caldwell and was one of the instrumental sparks in 04.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

A little surprised they didn't try and get this with UND for attendance/tickets sold. I think it's going to be a pretty empty stadium, especially if CC is down again. Even if they're up, they don't have a huge fan-base.

Not a huge fan base? The fact is CC annually averages more fans per home game than DU. If the folks at Coors Field price the tickets properly, this event will draw a decent, if not great crowd. The NHL Stadium series game between Colorado and Detroit will be out of the price range of most and in reality not many tickets will be available to the general public. Most tickets to NHL outdoor games are sold to NHL and team corporate partners.

This first time event in Colorado should draw very good numbers as long as the ticket prices are reasonable, i.e. family friendly. Both schools will be well represented at Coors Field.

McConnell parted ways with Chicago in February. Interim/New coach is a BADGER:eek:,,Dan Boeser.
