All Things Denver, XXX1X

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Before Matt Carle's injury in mid January he had played 347 straight games. The streak began March 27, 2010.

The youngest brother, Alex, had played 6 games with Youngstown in 2013-14 season before injuries sidelined him. And after 15 months is now back on the ice with the NAHL Lone Star Brahmas. Alex will be skating for Merrimack next year.

Wow, he looks just like his brother Matt!! And what's with him signing with Merrimack?, why not Denver?

He committed to Merrimack in January 2013, old news.

Chambers reporting that Loney is out this weekend with a lower body injury.

Wow...I guess a height difference between the two goalies is news-worthy, while a completely obscene (yet, alas, totally meaningful) stat observation that TJ has done well in NCHC action and EC has been not so great in equivilant action is not worthy. Weird...does not compute for this guy ...anywho t-minus 2 1/2 hours until rink landing :-) Hoping for as full of a house as we can get!

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Yes, Dmann, Alex really, really looks like Matt. After reading the article, got the impression he wanted to stay in the East, but whether DU recruited him or how hard only Gwoz, Stever Miller and the Carle family know.

Interesting article about the top 2 goalies. "Average" week in practice for both:confused: when this weekend Pios could move into the top 4 with a sweep of UMD. Bulldogs didn't look good at all against Bemidji and they beat the gophers, but not dominate. Seemed like DU and Miami played faster than UMD did against the Beavs and the gophs. DU lines will change again if Loney doesn't play. Interesting questions for Monty to solve his weekend.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

Incremental progress.

Before last weekend's games with Miami, Denver and Vermont were tied for 12th place in the PWR. Denver's split at Miami, combined with the other results throughout division 1 hockey, boosted the Pioneers into sole possession of 11th place in the PWR. The split gained in this weekend's games versus Duluth, again combined with the results of games throughout division 1 hockey, has boosted Denver into a 9th place tie with Harvard in the PWR. [Maine plays UConn in today's only game and I don't know what bearing the outcome of that game will have on Denver's PWR standing].

From a 12th place tie, to sole possession of 11th place, to a tie for 9th place in the PWR. Small steps, but incremental progress.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

When Coach Monty talked about a goalie rotation... It really meant an in-game rotation ... ;-)

Saw 14ers comment on the UMD thread.

co14ers;[/B]6089938]I don't know if it was a dive or not, but the play happened right in front of me. Chris and I thought they gave a two minute penalty, but then the linesman went to talk to a quite unhappy Sandelin and 5 minutes were put up on the board. The funniest thing was when Chris and I both looked at each other when the penalty was announced as a 5 minute interference. Huh? Five minute interference? No game misconduct. [/I] Weird indeed. I'd never heard of that before...

UMD fans said there was 5min interference call in their game against Bemidji.
Never heard of it before and don't know what it takes to get a 5 instead of a 2

Nice story on the Zajacs

DU is currently 15-9-1 and has 9 games left with 3 against CC. Those are 3 must wins in my book. CC is awful and 47th in PWR. DU can't afford for PWR purposes to lose any games to them. Assuming 3 wins against CC, the record increases to 18-9-1. DU has 3 other series left and considering how this league is comprised of splits DU could end up 21-12-1. If they are able to sweep at least one series, they would be 22-11-1. UND is 2 in PWR, Miami is 8 in PWR and SCSU is 25th in PWR. With DU playing two highly rated teams before SCSU, they have a great chance of really solidifying their PWR. They can't afford to get swept at SCSU or lose any games to CC.

2/6 @ CC
2/13 & 14 @UND
2/20 @ CC
2/21 CC
2/27 & 28 Miami
3/6 & 7 @SCSU

Actually I got a well-sourced explanation on that. The additional penalty time is assessed when the player on the receiving end is deemed ( through purely a judgement call) to be in a "vulnerable position" and at risk of injury...if there is nothing like actually striking the head then a game misconduct is not required.

4 DU alpine skiers to Compete in World Cup at Vail
DU men will be representing Norway, Croatia and Canada (2)
“I never considered that it might be tougher to make DU’s NCAA Championship team than it would be to make the World Championships for their home country, but such is the 2015 campaign,” said Denver head coach Andy LeRoy.
“Congrats to those four men for making us dream bigger!”

LeRoy can only take three alpine skiers to the NCAA championships.
Ski team is 2nd in the latest poll behind CU.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

B.U.'s 4-3, double OT win over Harvard has broken the 9th place tie in the PWR. Denver is now in sole possession of 9th place in the PWR. Harvard has dropped to 11th place.

Re: All Things Denver, XXX1X

The UConn Huskies did Denver a favor this evening by playing Providence to a 2-2 tie. Going into the game the Friars stood at 10th place in the PWR, behind 9th place Denver. A win by PC would have vaulted it past the Pioneers. The tie keeps Denver in sole possession of 9th place in the PWR while Providence remains in the 10th spot.
