Re: ALL THINGS DENVER--XL--This one's for Old Pio

So the thread title makes me wonder what's one on here. I dip in and out once a year or so, especially if UAH is playing the Pioneers, given current ties to the program. I spent like five minutes searching ...

... spent much more time digging (it's a very slow night at work), and I found out. That's sad. I'm (far too late in expressing that) sorry for your loss.

GFM

Thanks you for that, I am sad every time I see the thread title. He was quite a character and contributed a wealth of knowledge about the Pioneers storied history. He is missed!!

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER--XL--This one's for Old Pio

Zac Larraza has had an interesting rookie season as a pro.

  • A 7th round draft pick by the Coyotes, no contract was signed to stay in his home state.
  • Instead he went to the Florida Panthers rookie camp
  • Next he went to the Panthers ECHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs.
  • Followed by a PTO with the AHL Portland Pirates
  • Followed by a tour with the AHL Lake Erie Monsters
  • After his tour of the East Coast, he traded the snow for the surf and is currently with the AHL San Diego Gulls.
  • As of yesterday he had played in 39 games--21 in the ECHL and 18 in the AHL.

Saturday:

First Star: Quentin Shore (Denver)
Second Star: Adam Plant (Denver)
Third Star: Sean Kuraly (Miami)

Trevor Moore IS THE 96TH MEMBER OF THE Century Club.
Nolan Zajac is #10 Defenseman career scoring.

Whatever Coach Monty said to the upper classmen before Saturday's game worked--3 goals by seniors 2 goals by juniors.

16-year old Griffin Mendel of the Penticton Vees has committed to DU. He is a 6'3", 205 lb defenseman. He is scheduled to come to DU in 2017 and is eligible for the 2017 NHL entry draft.

Looks like Monty is trying to get more size in the 2017 recruiting class--3 of the last 4 6' or better..

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER--XL--This one's for Old Pio

Player of the bye week (or at least last night)--Tyler Bozak
Assist and tying goal in victory over New Jersey. Plus won 24 of 30 faceoffs=80%

'Ever the teacher, Babcock simultaneously praised and challenged Bozak.

"I thought he had the puck all night tonight and was good ... I still think he can be way better. We need him to be consistently competitive like he was tonight."
ICYMI Bozie now wears an "A" for the Leafs.

Leafs play Wiercioch and the Sens tonight.

Dang, it's been a while since I posted here. How are the ticket sales going for the "Kers" Field game?? (Remember, I'm a Texas transplant) We are going to the DU-CC game and also the Avs game. Since DU has the opening night, I really hope there's a large turnout for this historical game. I also hope for a nice nighttime, after-burner military flyover from Buckley AFB.

Bracketology(before Beanpot) per Jayson Moy

East Regional (Albany): Opponents look a lot like last year
14 Robert Morris vs. 4 Boston College
12 Denver vs. 5 Providence

After adjustments for attendance:
Midwest Regional (Cincinnati):
13 Massachusetts-Lowell vs. 3 North Dakota
12 Denver vs. 6 Michigan

Possibly the 6th meeting of DU and UND

Watching a sea of quiet, dejected drunk people in green jerseys exiting the Ritchie Center all at once.....one of the finest sports moments in college athletics. It's actually worth staying in your seat after a game to see.
