Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

No score about halfway through the first.

Steve Thompson got the start tonight over Scott Greenham for the Nanooks. Scott is a hell of a goalie, and quite possibly the best one to ever come through our program, but I agree with giving Thompson a chance. I don't blame this slow start on Greenham, as our defense has generally resembled swiss cheese so far, but when you're winless you have to shake things up. It's not like we can fall any farther in the standings.

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

Anders Lee scores on the PP to give ND a 1-0 lead with 3:33 to play in the second.

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

End of 2nd, still 1-0 Irish.

That was Lee's 12th on the year, leading the nation. One of the assists went to Tynan, his 15th. I think both of those numbers lead the nation.

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

12 seconds apart, Carlo Finucci and Andy Taranto.

2-1 Alaska, about 15:00 left in the 3rd.

For the love of all that is holy, put the foot down on their throat now!

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

Two quick goals for Alaska.

First was an awful miscue by ND, cleared puck from side of net that hopped back out right in front for Alaska to finish easily. Then immediately after faceoff, ND got possession in the offensive zone but then got caught on an ice-long break for the second score.

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

Killed off without a single scoring opportunity.

Still 2-1 Nanooks with about 12:00 to play.

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

2-2 with 3:30 or so to play.

Johns banged one of the blocker, Lee put it back towards the net and it might've gone in, but Tynan left no doubt, smashing it home.

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

Regardless of the outcome in OT, I think Steve Thompson has earned his stripes tonight. Good showing for a guy who's played twice since 2009.

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

Thompson has looked good. Neither goal was really his fault (the 2nd one he allowed a juicy rebound, but that's what Johns does is winds up and tries to set up people to pick up the trash), and he's made some sparkling saves on some really good ND chances.

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

Maday scores 5-hole from Tynan on a late break into the slot after an Alaska timeout. Irish win 3-2.

What. The. Eff. Just WHAT did we do to **** off the hockey gods so much?

Re: Alaska @ Notre Dame, Saturday

I'm about to put a metaphorical fist through a metaphorical wall. What a brutal, heartbreaker of a weekend.

I am absolutely stumped. With due respect to Notre Dame, we did everything possible to win both of those games and somehow didn't. Friday was one of those games that could have gone either way, but today was just brutal.

With the exception of one stinker against Ohio State, this team has done almost everything it can possibly do to win hockey games since CCHA play started and it can not catch a ****ing break.

I don't know what else we have to do. Voodoo? Maybe have Coach Ferguson do a dance at center ice in a loincloth? I'm open to ideas, as I'm sure the rest of us are.
