Yes...but...the actual city of Fairbanks is a very inaccurate compilation of how many people actually live in the area. UAF itself isn't anywhere near Fairbanks proper.

"Anchorage" is similar, but not quite the same. The official population of Anchorage includes not only Anchorage itself but all the outlying suburbs. The Municipality of Anchorage is one of the largest cities in the country by area.

The difference between Fairbanks and Anchorage is that the Fairbanks borough hasn't unified into one municipality like Anchorage has. But for all practical purposes, the population of the Fairbanks area is 100k, a third of which are within city limits.

Alaskans like to do it differently.

You should let your announcers know that there are two teams in alaska. We aren't alaska anchorage. They are talking about traveling to anchorage. They are in for a surprise when they got off that plane..
