Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

Re: Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

Just throwing another reminder out about the Guns & Hoses game on Sunday at the Sully. Game starts at 4 and tickets can be bought at all local fire stations and APD headquarters on Tudor. Alaska Hockey might even be able to hook anyone up if those aren't viable options. This year Anchorage police/fire will be taking on a team from Fairbanks. Should be a good fun matchup, all for charity. Hope to see some of you there!

I think Portwood could be back sooner rather than later, but it sounded like Naslund got a concussion.

And i agree with you on Spencer's penalty, i don't care what the other guy did, you don't take a cheap shot like that.

According to Woody, Portwood, Naslund, and Gellert are all out. Also, Spencer might not be playing as well (probably ticked off the coach with his major penalty last Saturday night).

Solid win last night. Let's hope the team can build off this won.

Oh, and congrats to Mitch Brujisten for the hat trick!

Heartbreaker of a loss with 2.8 seconds to go. Considering how short our bench was, the team played great. Something to build on for sure. Enjoy the holidays Seawolves!

Re: Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

UAA looked very solid this weekend. Last night, CC got the 2-0 lead and then acted as if UAA would just roll over, which they obviously didn't (and NEVER do). Tonight, CC outplayed UAA for most of the game, but the Seawolves really hung tough, played very hard, and were able to keep CC's speed in check. You guys should all hold your heads high for what your team did this weekend and for how well they played. They easily could have had 3 points, but even 2 is very good. Last night was CC's first home loss of the season, and your boys REALLY took it to CC. If they could play everybody as well as they have played CC for the past few years, they'd be a top half WCHA team! Anyway, good luck to UAA the rest of the way...and I hope we don't have to meet again. ;)

Nice words to hear from a fan of an opponent. I do wish three UAA players hadn't left Colorado with two concussions and a separated shoulder though. Injuries have plagued this team for a while now, thus their record. When they get healthy, watch out!

PS - I heard a lot of CC fans booing their team. Do they make a habit of that? It's really bothersome to me as a fan.

I agree Suze. I can't STAND hearing people boo a college team. I was at both games, and heard no boos tonight, aside from some over the late penalty that was called on Nick Dineen, but the boos were directed at the officials, not the team. There may have been a few last night, but it was not widespread at all, and I think a lot of it was directed at the officials as well (although IMO the officials were fine; CC earned their bad fate Friday night). I have no qualms over booing a pro team if they aren't giving the effort, but I would NEVER boo CC (nor any of the college teams I support in various sports). I go to nearly every CC game and have never heard the fans boo the team, aside from the few idiots that we all, unfortunately, see at games occasionally.

Swept in Houghton with 6-2 and 6-4 losses...

Is it time to panic yet? Honestly, with the loss of Mickey Spencer plus the thought of not having Gunderson or Kwas for a while, I'm worried. We'll have to see what happens in Madison, but I'm not exactly thrilled with the direction this team is going in...

Re: Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

panic a lil bit, home ice is almost out of the question, UW is not as good as they usually are this season, if we can take 2 points out of there i'll be happy.

as far as spencer is concerned, most of his points were scored in kendall & brice goal rush. I've seen more guys like Scheid, Allen, & Cameron contribute a lil better out there. Gundy played really well in the last series against CC and i think he was ready to take over the #1 position, Our PP sounded abysmal and Kwas was on the #1 power play unit, so missing those 2 is huge.

GO WOLVES WE WILL SUPPORT YOU

Re: Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

Agreed. I'm kind of hoping we'll match up with CC in the first round because I think we can play them tough like we did a month ago down in Colorado Springs.

Re: Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

OK, now should we panic? I know that last game was close, but we've lost way too many close games this year. Hopefully we get Kwas and Gunderson back soon...

Re: Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

Hi everyone,

I'm coming into town next weekend to see the games. We had to make Anchorage a destination for our annual hockey road trip before it is too late. :( Anyway, we will be there from Thursday to Tuesday. I've been to Anchorage a couple of times but never in the winter. Any suggestions of things to do, places to eat, or places to drink that are not to be missed? Thanks in advance.

P.S. Come say hi to me at the games. I'll probably be the only really big guy there wearing a DU sweater.

1st of all welcome to winter in Alaska.

good places to eat Snow city cafe (breakfast), Humpys, moose's tooth, & Glacier brewhouse are some of the best places to eat in town. My fav drinking spot downtown is F st station.

Don't miss out on trying out Humpy's! Good food and brews!

Maybe you can get Donald to take you guys to PJ's (but go at your own risk).

Re: Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

Is Kwas ineligible for this weekend's games. Will we see Gunderson?

Re: Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

What does the NCAA even mean by "Academically Ineligible"? Is it something to do with his GPA at UAA or something like that?

Edit - I should mention there's also a really great hot dog place near the Sullivan arena called Johnny Chicago's (don't remember the exact address, sorry). I know for a fact that the hot dogs are really good, so if you can, try to make it there!

In my experience, Snow City Cafe and Glacier Brewhouse are can't miss places. I'm not a huge Humpy's fan, but it is a place you ought to hit up. I will say this, if you like dark beers at all, keep an eye out for Midnight Sun's Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter. It's the first local beer I had in Alaska. Pretty excellent.

Re: Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves 2011-2012 Thread - Here We Go!

Uh...ouch....that didn't end well.

Well, now we have Duluth coming to town, and not to sound pessimistic or anything, but I don't like our chances against them at all.
