Alaska 2021-22: Living the Dream…34 Game Non-Conf Schedule

Alaska drops Friday’s game to UNO in OT 2-3. SOGs 27-23 UNO.
Penalties: UNO 8-16, Alaska 8-27
PPG: UNO 1-6, Alaska 1-6

UNO scores two in the first on a PP goal (Ward), and a 5x5 (Randl)
Alaska ties it up in the second with a PP goal (Kalkis) and a 4x4 (Risk)

UNO wins 2:44 into OT with a nice shot my Miller off a faceoff.

Again, can’t complain about the effort by the boys. We had 7 new faces in the lineup (5 forwards & 2 defense) from last weekend’s games. Still skated 9 Fr., 7 So., and 4 Jr. last night. A little more time with consistent line-ups and watch the penalties and we can do this. Keep up the pressure boys. Get’em Sunday night.

Go Nooks!

Alaska drops Saturday’s game to UNO 1-5. SOGs 32-20 UNO.
Penalties: UNO 4-8, Alaska 4-8
PPG: UNO 2-4, Alaska 0-4

Alaska scores first in the first (Virtanen). Then it was all UNO.
UNO scores five unanswered goals; 3 in the second (Ward, Primeau, and McManus), and 2 in the third (Primeau, Ward).

The Nooks played hard but were never really in this one. UNO controlled the puck for most of the night. The Nooks could never get any offense going. The score could’ve been worse. The Nooks stay on the road and travel to Clarkson next weekend for a Friday/Saturday series. Regroup boys.

Go Nooks!

Alaska at Clarkson
Friday, Oct 22
Saturday, Oct 23

Friday, Oct 22. Game three of four against Clarkson this season. Split with them in Fairbanks.
We are skating 7 Fr., 9 So., 4 Jr., and it's the first D1 start for Fr. Goaltender (Daniel Allin). We have 5 forwards and 1 d-man who did not skate against Clarkson in Fairbanks. Lets’s go boys.

Go Nooks!

Alaska drops (fumbles, stumbles, and bumbles) Friday night’s game to Clarkson 1-5
SOGs: 22-23 Clarkson
Penalties: Clarkson 8-16, Alaska 7-14
PPG: Clarkson 5-7, Alaska 1-8

Alaska gave up 4 straight pp goals in the first, in embarrassing fashion, and the fifth straight pp goal in the second, making it 0-5 Clarkson. Alaska got a pp goal in the third, but by then Clarkson was just on cruise control and going through the motions. Terrible effort and job by the Nooks on the PK is a gross understatement. Can’t put much blame on goaltending, but he sure didn’t do himself any favors either.

The wheels came off boys. Get it back on track for Saturday’s game.

I could about substitute ASU for Alaska in your comment concerning Friday nite against Colgate, but did barely win Saturday nite.

Alaska hosts UNO Friday and Saturday, Nov 19[SUP]th[/SUP] & 20[SUP]th[/SUP].

Just the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] home series this season. Except for 4 games in 7 days at home vs RPI in December, we will not play another home series until mid February vs St. Thomas.

It’s nice to welcome UNO back to Fairbanks, especially since it’s forecasted to be near -30F Friday night…just like the good old days of the CCHA.

Go Nooks!

A three game winning streak heading into Christmas break! Before this week it was a year filled with not much besides some moral victories. Finally we broke through and played not just great defensively, but found the back of the net more than twice in a game. Four Nooks scored their first career goal, including two redshirt juniors! It doesn’t get easier after the break with ten straight road games, some against top 15 teams. But it is a great way to go into the break! Go Nanooks!

With the weekend sweep at Arizona State, the Nanooks are 8-4-1 in the last 13 games, with the last 10 on the road. The ASU play by play announcer said at one point this weekend how a loss against the Nanooks who are “significantly” lower in the pair wise would hurt their chances at an NCAA at large berth. After this weekend UAF is now one spot behind them in the pairwise. A very entertaining series this week that will be interesting to watch how the next 2 games go against the Sun Devils in Fairbanks. It was good to see more players getting involved with the scoring this weekend. Too bad we don’t get to see this team have a shot in conference playoffs.

Nanooks looked very good! I was surprised by a sweep. Will be interesting to see the Fairbanks series as you say. Will it be televised, live streamed?

ASU is starting to get a reputation and not in a good way vis a vis all those penalties. Normally at home they get the benefit of the doubt. Well done to get a sweep.

I was expecting a split and would guess that would be the more likely outcome up in Fairbanks. We have 4 games between now and then though, which could affect my outlook on it. Nanook home games are streamed on FloSports.

One of the cleaner skating games of the season for us, no penalties on either side in the first, and only two per team the whole game…. Minus the extra curricular activities that made the penalty numbers skyrocket. That was without any penalties being listed on the box score from the game ending tussle. Curious if there will be any suspensions from that, especially with Nanook skaters jumping off the bench to celebrate and then had to turn around to avoid the fracas.

Not sure I'm following you. It is ranked #5 this year, basically the same as UAF. But the spread between Bowling Green at #1 in average penalty minutes per game and #20 is about 3.5 minutes per game.
